The Boston Globe published an article today written by Michael Karnish, a BG reporter and Kerry’s biographer (no conflict of interest there).
In the article Karnish claims that in an interview that Michael Meehan, Kerry’s spokesperson said about Kerry deploying Special Forces teams into Cambodia “there was no paperwork for such missions and he could not supply a date”.
Well Mr. Meehan that is a load of bovine excrement. You mean to say that the SF’s chain of command did not formally request the NAVY chain of command the use of Swift boats to deploy SF teams? You mean to say that there were no written action and objective plans as to what was the SF’s mission?
Have you ever heard of or seen folders with documents on which the folders and documents contained in them are marked “TOP SECRET”?
For your information Mr. Meehan, the Armed Forces do not operate on the basis of verbal orders nor are plans for action and deployment discussed and authorized verbally in cigar smoke filled rooms.
That situation is reserved for politicians in DC.
One more piece of bovine excrement disseminated by Kerry’s campaign is that Kerry VOLUMTEERED for Viet Nam and did one full year Tour of Duty in Viet Nam on the Gridley.. The real story is that Kerry enlisted in the Naval Reserves on February 16, 1966 after his deferment was denied, his status was “inactive”.
It wasn’t until December 16 that his status was changed to “active”. It wasn’t until June 1967 that Kerry was assigned to the USS Gridley till June 1968 cruising the Pacific from California to Australia with a brief 5 weeks stop off the coast of Viet Nam.
The NAVY then decided to ship John Kerry’s butt off to VietNam in November 17 1968 to serve on the Swift boats (Unfit for Command).
John Kerry never volunteered. He just hopped that his “inactive” status would never be changed to “active” and avoid Viet Nam all together.
After losing his deferment he had no choice but to enlist.
