Elliott signed off on the papers, taking Kerry's word for his deeds. It was only recently that Elliott and others realized that Kerry had "cooked the books", so to speak.
Surely you've known of people who supported someone based on their word, then didn't support them when they found out the truth. Scott Peterson and Laci Peterson's family come to mind.... |

To be fair.....I'm on the fence. But when I saw this I felt compelled to post here. The only thing I'm trolling for are opinions.....

Kerry wrote the After Action Report that Elliot used as a basis for the recommendation. Kerry embellished the truth of what happend that day to make him look good. Elliot and others that were there that day did not realize that Kerry did this until they read Kerry's own book "Tour of Duty" (2004).
Now they are out to set the record straight. _________________

Page 4 of the document has Elliot praising Kerry in a number of ways...not just the one incident. I find it hard to believe he wrote that summary on page 4 based other people observations and not his own.... |

I suggest you read the FAQ thread in the Research and Resources Forum.
It covers this question of how and why some of the Swifts have changed their minds over the years.
The release of "Tour of Duty" was probably the main catalyst. _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

How about sharing you opinions with us.

Can you imagine being a POW in the Hanoi Hilton and your captors using the words of Kerry, Kennedy and others to belittle you... to break you?
Speaking of McCain here... somewhere along the way his view of Kerry changed... I wonder why? Personally I do not understand John McCain's condemnation of the Swift Vets standing against Kerry.
"For many years McCain held Kerry's actions against him because, while McCain was a POW in the Hanoi Hilton, Kerry was organizing veterans back home in the U.S. to protest the war."
In his 2002 book, "Man of the People: The Life of John McCain," Alexander says that the two Vietnam vets finally reconciled in the early 1990s after having "a long - and at times emotional - conversation about Vietnam" during a mutual trip to Kuwait |

Read the book. You may find then your questions are answered before you even have to ask them. It's fine to come looking for answers to your questions, but why not go first to the source that outlines and enumerates the charges? You'll catch up a lot faster that way. _________________ Veritas |

He's not looking for answers...but opinions. At least, that's what he said. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

It was based on the after action report, read the after action report for yourself COCHESE ... try poking holes in the accusations instead of attacking Elliot ... _________________ JJC

Well you obviously didn't read everything because this is from Kerry's FITREP from Elliot dated 18 Dec 1969. Its posted on the link I supplied.
"exhibited all of the traits desired in an officer in a combat environment"
"instrumental in planning the highly successful Sea Lords Operation"
"In combat environment requiring independant, decisive action Kerry was unsurpassed"
"LTJG Kerry emerges as an acknowledged leader in his peer group"
My point is that when Elliot, representing SBVT, now comes on TV bashing Kerry it creates a huge credibility gap.
Yes or no ?? |

Not at all.
You obviously didn't read what we recommended ie how to interpret fitreps.
Give it a shot and then give us YOUR opinion. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

cochese, Elliot was not on that mission... all he had to go on was John Kerry's account... and it wasn't known until recently that Kerry lied about what actually happened. That's the point you are missing. |
