Another thing strikes me as odd concerning Kerry's allegation that he got fragged on the 16th by an underwater mine. Thanks to Tom (ASPB) we know that almost all underwater mines were of Czech or Chinese origin, thus no frag produced. Some of these are actually referred to as river or surf-zone mines I do believe but I’m not a Navy EOD type.. Second point upon looking at the Washington Post grapic, why would one set up a kill zone with one mine that stuck PCF-3 (pees) upriver from the fishing weir and Kerry’s PCF-94 near miss with a mine down river from the fishing weir. If one wanted a good killing zone one would have placed both mines on one side of the fishing weir. If Kerry is to make his claim of a second mine he knows it must be the second detonation, otherwise, everyone in the world would have known Kerry’s boat was struck first. Kerry would have had to have known that all boats knew that he had cleared to the down river side of the fishing weir. What better time to claim a second mine than immediately after PCF-3 is hit and the mad minute begins! This killing zone with mines up river on one side and down river on the other side don’t make for a good killing zone. I would have placed both mines, if they exsisted, on the same side of the fishing weir, to kill them all in a concentrated area!!!!!!!!!

That's the point.
We don't have data other that a list of army PH's awarded during the period. No CAAR, no medical records, no Nada! Try to get the Special Forces guys who first posted this issue here to run it down.
They're as motivated as we are but they have contacts we don't .
And EOD, you're 100% right. There is no frag from a underwater Czech or Chinese C-4 improvised explosive device and that's exactly what almost all water mines in Nam were.
