I might have gotten myself booted off the ABCnews boards by spelling out what these initials mean. I won't bother here. Those in the know will remember.
Anyway, I read an article extolling Lt. Kerry's heroics and the fact that he thought up a new tactic against the Viet Cong that hadn't been tried before by the Swifties. It seemed too good to be true.
If I recall, the general feeling about F.N.G.'s was that they were apt to get you killed. It took a long time for F.N.G.'s to be accepted by the main group of seasoned soldiers. Generally, our fresh new jungle fatigues was a dead give-away to the "old guys". |

| For us civilians not in the know (I just chanced to read it in Tommy Franks' book today): Friendly New Guy, except use a much more suggestive 'F' word. |

And I always though it stood for Funny New Guy.....  Actually never heard that one in the more recent Navy.
Are you referring to his brilliant tactical plan to blanket the VC with psyops?? Maybe he'd like to try that in Iraq. Being a war hero and all - he could take the lead Humvee???
