I just posted somewhere else that 58% would be the panic number for Democrats. This is getting into the danger zone for them. |

Newsweek had it 54 to 43. This must be a new poll. |

If you take the online poll listed within the article, it will show you both the magazine poll and the online poll--The 57/42 number is the result of the online poll which is, of course, completely uncontrolled--C _________________ “I haven’t seen anyone milk this much out of a bad boat ride since Gilligan” -- Dennis Miller |

This is a web poll and means absolute nothing. Any poll based on visits to a particular site or from readers of particular magazines mean squat. Obviously these types of polls are totally skewed towards a particular audience. I say a poll from CNN that said over 50% of respondents did think Bush had made his case to get reelected. |

may_5437 wrote: | Say what you want about he polls, but isn't it pathetic that so many people would make their decision on the president from watching a couple hours of scripted TV? If you haven't been paying attention up until the RNC and then make your decision based on what you say on TV you're a complete loser IMO. |
You're making some interesting assumptions here--
1) You assume that the responses reflected in this, or any, poll are people's "decision[s] on the president" rather than how they feel today, based on the information that they've gleaned so far, about the decision that they will make on 2 November--
2) You assume that the people who were polled "haven't been paying attention up until" now--What's the source information upon which you base such a statement?--How do you know that the people who responded to these polls haven't been "paying attention" all along and either a) their responses just reaffirm how they felt about things before the convention, or b) hadn't made up their minds before but are now leaning more toward Bush, or c) are inclined to change their thinking about things based upon what they heard during the convention, or d) something else completely?--
Oh, and one other thing--Name-calling is rarely persuasive outside the playground, and often not even there--C _________________ “I haven’t seen anyone milk this much out of a bad boat ride since Gilligan” -- Dennis Miller |

Two entirely different polls here, may_5437--One is one of those silly little web site polls and, I agree, it means little--But the other one was a poll conducted by Newsweek Magazine, not "from readers of particular magazine" and likely to be approximately as accurate (or not accurate) as one taken by CNN or most of the others--C _________________ “I haven’t seen anyone milk this much out of a bad boat ride since Gilligan” -- Dennis Miller |

58 days is a long time. President Bush needs to keep getting his message out about Kerry's Senate Record and Vets need to keep getting Kerry's true Vietnam Record out, including what he did when he came home and the damaged it caused. When Kerry and the Dems get desperate anything can happen.
