SWIFT RECOVERY
On Tuesday morning, John Kerry met again with senior advisers to look over the speech he will make later today in Nashville to the American Legion, and to continue preparing for the coming presidential debates.
According to Kerry insiders, the candidate will attack his Swift Boat Veterans for Truth critics, by claiming it was he who stood up for veterans and the missing in action during his days in the Senate. "This is going to be the big pushback," says a Kerry adviser. "He will take this Swift Boat guys on, and then put the debate to rest. He isn't going to let this spin out of control for days on end. We won't let it."
That some inside the Kerry campaign believe they can still set the debate or at least the discussion from day to day on their terms shows how some Democratic insiders may still underestimate the power of the Swift Boat ads and message, as well as the palatable downshift in the campaign momentum.
"The Republicans have had three good weeks. Let's be realistic and honest about this. Just three good weeks," says the Kerry adviser in Washington. "We've had three good months. Once their convention is over, the American people will be able to size up the candidates and the issues. Our guy will win that comparison."
Kerry intends to renew his campaign, with a new message and tweaked stump speech almost immediately following the conclusion of President Bush's acceptance speech. Kerry will be in Ohio with veep candidate John Edwards and their spouses to begin two-day bus tours in the pivotal state. |

This should be good. Let's see if the American Legion guys have any backbone. Pay attention to the reaction, they're always looking for new members. |

hmm...do we have any more info on this yet? I wonder...perhaps Kerry and Co. have finished scrubbing his records and will release some sort of "proof" that will--as they say--"put this debate to rest."
I think we need to pounce on this as soon as the details of the speech emerge. |

Are they really this STOOPID?
They're going to take on the Swifties and its going to all be over in a few days? The logic is truly unfathomable. |

Kerry's going to try to use his MIA/POW record in the senate to attack the SwiftVets?
This is absurd. Worse it is stupid.
1. Anyone with a gram of sense knows that he didn't run to get into congress (either as a Rep or Senator) on this issue.
2. He had a position to act when his shipmates did not. Doing so is not laudable....merely expected...and no reasonable person can hold it against a fellow vet that was not elected into office. Common freaking sense tells you that.....it won't fly.
3. He is using his record to make this attack? He record does not bear close examination on this point.....and it just opens him up to even more dismal results.
Who is running his campaign anyway? Laurel and Hardy?!? _________________ -Polaris

Is it true that the American Legion is the more liberal of the two leading veterans' orgs.
I am not a vet, though I am thinking of enlisting. |

No matter what he says about being "for the troops" in Vietnam, his
words in the ad telling the world that the troops in Vietnam acted as he
said they did should make any veteran angry.
Hopefully, the crowd they are bringing in for this event will not make
people believe his lies again. I doubt that could happen anymore, the
word is out there now and he cannot run and he cannot hide.
He should stop trying to prove the vets are with him as it is so obvious
that many are not, what is his problem, can he not let this go?
How many times does he have to be proved a liar, lies he admits to? _________________ Swiftvets rock! |

Billman,
That would be good, if it is possible. However, if this event is run like the VFW events I am familiar with, it won't be. In those events placards and the like are generally not permitted. I like the "about face" manuever. It is non-threatening and non-disturbing, but it says volumes. _________________ -Polaris

I liken John Kerry to the fireman that starts a fire so he can get the glory for putting it out - let's call him for what he really is A Congenital

I will be paying very close attention. If Kerry attacks SBV, I
pray those in the audience stand and turn their backs. |
