johnkerry.com lists Kerry being promoted to (full) Lieutenant (O-3) on 1 Jan 1970. It also lists Kerry's separation from active duty on 1 Mar 1970.
The second DD214 on the website, covering his release from active duty and transfer to the Naval Reserve is dated: Day 03 Mon 01 Yr 70. This would be 3 Jan 1970, so it would be a good guess that the clerk transposed the day and month numbers and this document is from 1 Mar 70.
Hey, that's okay. But why is Kerry's rank listed as LTJG (O-2)? Is this another glitch/simple error, or is it appropriate and explained by the old temporary versus permanent rank set-up that used to apply?
There is another letter covering Transfer to Standby Reserve dated 1 Mar 1972 that addresses him as LT Kerry.
Where is the DD214 that contains his correct rank upon discharge of all military obligation?
Others are please invited to weigh in, although this thread isn't about Pres. Bush or lots of other issues -- only about exploring the revealed facts of Kerry's military service record. Many of the questions I see may have trivial explanations. The men who served with Kerry and set up this forum say that everything isn't revealed yet. |
