Are not emergency signals. The USGS may forgive your ignorance and check you out. But, any military asset or government authority displaying an upside ensign (and I don't mean an entry level navy officer) is understood to be in insurrection, that is: in rebellion (was stuck with 'honors and ceremonies' for several years and saw it alot in the PI).

good call, one of my vet for Kerry acquaintances was insisting that the upside down flag on new soldier was showing distress.

I knew in pirate days it was mutiny, didn't know that's still it (since we've seen so many in USN history Laughing

) It was showing contempt. I need to rub that in his face. THanks for the insightful post.

Saw one of those Lanny Davis types saying the upside down flag on the cover of that book was an emergency signal for those uniformed (albeit fatigues) soldiers in psychic distress. Made me wanna puke.

that's exactly what my acquaintance...former friend...it actually went sour over my siding with swiftvets...said, exactly.

It means mutiny. combine mutiny with the dishevelled appearnace, the alcohol, and the mockery of Iwo jima, and you have an ANTI-AMERICAN IMAGE.
