Kerry claimed he had no contact with the phony viet vet and communist activist Al Hubbard after the April 1971 Meet the Press interview. Actually Kerry and Hubbard were arrested May 30th of that year in Lexington Massachusetts for illegally camping on the Lexington Battle Green.

Really? That's a nice catch. It should be added to the FAQ as another example of catching him in a lie, if it's not already there. Ammo, folks. Very Happy

Old Dem, can you supply some documentation to this claim? Is there anything reported on the web about it?

Hi Lew.
Thanks for asking.
If you look in Douglas Brinkley's Tour of Duty you will see a picture of John Kerry "leading the VVAW, walks with his hands behind his head as the police escort veterans and supporters from Lexington Green on May 31, 1971. It was his first -- and only -- arrest." Kerry was participating in a demonstration called "Operaton POW." On pages 386 and 387 of that campaign biography you will read this glowing description of Kerry's role in that operation: "With the possible exception of [M.I.T.] linguistics professor and noted antiwar activist Noam Chomsky, the star of the Memorial Day veterans' march was undeniably the photogenic twenty-seven-year-old Kerry. . . . Good cheer filled the air as Kerry linked arms with his fellow vets -- including the indomnitable Al Hubbard -- and chanted, 'bring them home, bring our brothers home.'
His burgeoning fame did not, however, shield Kerry from being arrested. At two o'clock in the morning of May 30, . . . a phalanx of local and state police in riot gear suddenly appeared in the soft crescent moonlight glowing on the old battle field shrines. The marchers were all being charged with trespassing. 'We had defied their ban on camping on the battlefield,' Kerry explained."
As an aside, anyone who has visited Lexington Green knows that there are no shrines to commemorate the batttle. The Green itself remains in silent tribute to the minutemen who shed their blood that their posterity, even the misguided, may enjoy the blessings of liberty.

Thanks, OldDem. I haven't read Tour of Duty, but have seen the picture you speak of. Wink
