What Do Benedict Arnold And John Kerry Have In Common?

During the Revolutionary War we were fighting for our independence and freedom. It was for life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. It was for no taxation without representation. Even then George Washington did not have the people supporting him and his troops. In fact, only a small percentage of Americans were supporting our efforts in the war. Sure many of them wanted independence and freedom, but they didn't have the courage to contribute to, or even support the cause. Then as today there were wimps and warriors. One of the leaders in the Revolutionary War, a true warrior for about 5-6 years, Benedict Arnold, became a traitor.

Now another George—George Bush—is encountering similar opposition in a war for our national survival. Fortunately President Bush has a much higher percentage supporting him then supported General Washington. But I thought it interesting when John Kerry recently referred to the "Benedict Arnold CEOs." Then I wondered what do Arnold and Kerry have in common.

Families: Well they were both raised in the Northeast. Both married two women from prominent families, the second one wealthier then the first. Arnold's first wife died and three years later he married a young lady from a prominent family in Philadelphia. Kerry married a Philadelphia heiress and divorced her 25 years later and immediately married a much wealthier woman.

Military Achievements: Arnold led 1,100 soldiers into Canada. He was severely wounded in the assault and his courage won him promotion to brigadier general. One year later he distinguished himself during the Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain. One year after that he was promoted to major general as a reward for his bravery in helping drive the British out of Connecticut. Later that year he was in the Second Battle of Freeman's Farm where he again showed gallant courage and again seriously wounded. His victory here led to British General Burgoyne's surrender a few days later at Saratoga. Kerry served four months on a small riverboat in Vietnam and "supposedly" was wounded three times, but no hospitalization.

Abandons Fellow Soldiers: Arnold brooded about his country's ingratitude and injustice and became a brigadier general in the British Army and led expeditions that burned Richmond, Virginia, and New London, Connecticut. Kerry made a trip to Paris, meeting with the North Vietnamese Communists probably to map out strategies for more and larger demonstrations in the United States. He joined Hanoi Jane Fonda in demonstrations around the country, giving aid and comfort to the North Vietnamese, and effectively extending the war. It can be argued that Kerry's actions contributed unnecessarily to the death and injuries of American military personnel.

If Kerry wants to put these CEOs he was referring to in a 'bad light', why doesn't he just call them "John sKerry CEOs." It would sure fit!
