Kerry said that American servicemen committed war crimes.

In his home state, Kerry became popular and famous
That act, made sense at the time, since Kerry was likely contemplating
running for elected office in Massachusetts.
Without Kerry...
testifying to the Senate Foriegn Relations Committee (Fulbright), Mad
meeting with the enemy in Paris, Mad Mad
and mocking the service and sacrifice of Americans who served in
WW2 with his book 'The New Soldier', Evil or Very Mad ...well...
Kerry would not have had the notariety that helped him win
his first elected office, and no one would remember him now.
