If we have to answer the question “Why is what John Kerry did and said thirty plus years ago relevant today?” all we have to do is look at the history of the Vietnam anti-war movement and compare it to goals of the anti-war movement now.
Back about 1970 the goal of the peace protesters was to defeat Richard Nixon and replace him as President with a pacifist Commander and Chief that would concede defeat and unilaterally withdraw our forces from Southeast Asia. Knowing how strong the peace movement was in America, led by John Kerry and Jane Fonda among others the North Vietnamese where bound and determined to stall the Paris peace talks hoping the 1972 Presidential election would give them the victory they desired. The end result of the Peace protesters was at least two more years of war and another 12 thousand plus names on that big black wall in Washington D.C.
Now we are in a worldwide war against terrorism and you have to ask if the resolve of the terrorist fighting against us is being strengthened by the prospect of having our President who they fear more than anyone, may be replaced by an anti-war pacifist that will not fight them.
The major battles of this war are being fought in Iraq right now and many of our young solders are dying. Is the battle in Irak being fueled by the rhetoric of Michael More, Howard Dean and the Presidential campaign of John Kerry? How many millions of dollars have they spent to trash our President and our country this past year? How many of our dead and wounded hero’s are they responsible for? |
