I noticed that in the book O'Neill mentions Kerry wears the outfit of an "infantryman" in at least one of the videoclips from vietnam Kerry uses in his campaign (where he is "stalking an unseen enemy," I think is how O'Neill puts it). I remember seeing the footage at issue, and that's pretty ridiculous of Kerry if indeed he is dressed in Army infantry fatigues instead of the clothing of a Navy PCF officer.

I am wondering if there is actually a difference in what Kerry is wearing in the video where he's walking through the jungle with a rifle and the clothing O'Neill is wearing in the last page of the photo section, where his crew has on helmets and he has on fatigues and has his helmet on the floor of the boat.

Regardless of what Kerry's wearing, the footage of him walking through the jungle with a rifle isn't typical of what he was doing in the Navy on PCFs and so Kerry should have filmed footage of him on his boat if he was going to give an average view of his day over there.

In the modern-day Special boat Units (1994), we wore cammies simply because we might need to go ashore or might unintentionally end up ashore. I assure all that it was not to perform infantry actions. It would have been for non-shooting listening posts or for E&E.

Mary, if you see it again, it's a lot more than just the jungle fatigues. We wore jungle fatigues, except when flying and then wore nomex flight suits. (Army, remember?) Bandoliers of ammo, steel pot, flak vest, etc, is what O'Neill was talking about, never mind he doesn't carry the M-16 properly.
