CBS Poll: Vets Favor Bush
CBSNew.com, by Staff

Original Article

Veterans' evaluations of the war in Iraq are slightly more optimistic than those of the American public overall -- although even veterans question how well things are going for the U.S. in Iraq and whether the war is worth the costs, a CBS News poll finds. And as both presidential candidates vie for the veterans vote in 2004, right now President Bush holds a clear lead among those who have served...

He doesn't call them "baby killers".

Lets only allow Veterans to vote in 2004, since the Rats did all they could to block the military from voting in 2000.

Maybe Kerry should start looking for another "band of brothers"...

Most vets remain modest about their service and avoid bragging.

THIS Vet favors President Bush.

Bush would never sit down with the enemy while US military personnel were POW's as Kerry did in France 1970. Kerry should be charged, tried and convicted if the statute of limitations has not run out.

Today Sean Hannity had a link with Ollie North. He was talking about all the injured Troops he's visited. He didn't go into details about their injuries, but, some of them were horrific. He reported that each one of them said they would do it all over again. It's THAT important! WE CAN'T GIVE UP AND WITHDRAW!

From me - and, I'm sure they agree - it would be an insult to those we have lost.

I have the advantage of being close to the DNC. They may have cut off rail traffic into the city but I will find a way in. My first political protest (at 51).
Plan to dress in proper attire (white shirt and tie) with my ribbons and black beret. Also plan to carry a sign with 4 shower flip flops (already in hand). One side of the sign will say "Am I a baby killer?".
The other may say "Kerry is a traitor".
If you have any better ideas feel free to contact me.

Reply 16 - Posted by: stormy, 6/5/2004 12:48:02 AM

Unlike this stupid poll by Kerry, the veterans that truly care about our country are behind GWB 100 per cent.

(Didn't want to be cut short because of too many words....)

A phony CBS poll---next it will be a phony Zoby poll--then a phony CNN poll--etc., etc.; all telling us dumb folk we better get on board the Kerry bandwagon-everyone else is------except that wagon got no wheels. A BS poll.

What is killing the dems is that they know Bush is right and they can't admit it.

Reply 19 - Posted by: stormy, 6/5/2004 12:56:42 AM

#15, can't think of a better message than 'Kerry is/was a traitor'. Good luck with your protest. Wish I could be there to join you!

The DNC will be fun this year.
The Boston cops are not as likely to strike vets in proper attire with billy clubs. Truth is that many are on our side.
Kerry is not even liked in MA.
And #19 - you and you late husband have fought your war and you did great. My war is still ongoing. It will be over when Kerry goes down in flames.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 21 - Posted by: Cameron, 6/5/2004 1:25:35 AM

As per #15
I suspect they are closing all the ways into Boston to deter folks such as yourself. The D's would certainly consider you a terrorist. I wish you well and hope other Conservatives join you in your up hill battle. Your commitment and testicular fortitude is respected.

Well, that about clinches the idea that the DemocRATs will now do all they can to nullify or throw out all absentee ballots...especially those from the military..as they did in 2000 in Florida and New Mexico. In New Mexico, all early votes were tossed on a technicality that was set up by the DemocRAT secretary of state...She rigged a tiny flaw before the election, then when Bush was closing in on Gore, she invoked the rule to toss the early votes...of which most are traditionally Republican. If the early voters votes had counted, Fla would not have been an issue...New Mexico was certainly a Bush state with the early votes included. There was no challenge by the state Repubs because by the time the challenge was floated, Fla was pretty much secured.

I'm most impressed with Dubya's Texas Air National Guard service during the Vietnam War. I think that is why most Veterans favor Dubya.

"Kerry's eventual choice of running mate has the potential to alter the race for the veterans vote. Some have speculated that Kerry might form a ticket with GOP Senator John McCain, who is also a Vietnam veteran (although McCain has said he has no interest.)"

This is CBS frantically clapping for Tinkerbell to live.

Thank God for all our service men and women, as well as vets, who understand and put, or have put, their lives on the line to defend America's freedom.
How proud we are of them, and how we stand in awe of their courage and strength!
They deserve a leader like President Bush, who supports, arms, and reveres them as well.
We are going to re-elect this great man.

Reply 30 - Posted by: Sooner, 6/5/2004 7:07:47 AM

When Bush speaks to the troops, it's obvious that they admire him and identify with him because he is a plain-spoken real man. #15, I love it that you are already planning ahead to make your statement in Boston. And, for heaven's sake, let's all go to the polls to vote not take any chances by voting absentee. The Dems will have plenty of dirty tricks up their sleeves in November.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 31 - Posted by: Jebediah, 6/5/2004 7:53:13 AM

#6 must be from Mass. (maybe Kerry was buying bandaides and bacetracin for new "major"injuries.)

"Veterans' evaluations of the war in Iraq" is incorrect in its implication because like Afghanistan, Iraq is a Battle not a "war" - the War on Terror is the generic term and will probably include Battles of Iran, Syria etc.

Reply 34 - Posted by: Mo Gumbo, 6/5/2004 8:03:31 AM

If the Soviets had decided to move into Western Europe during the 60s, President Bush would have been right in the middle of the resulting conflict.
It was called the cold war, Goats. Thousands of Americans were stationed in Europe ready to defend our 'allies' and ourselves if attacked.
If I'm not wrong, ted, 'the hut' kennedy was in Europe as a 'soldier'. He was not a trained fighter pilot, however. I believe he spent quite a lot of time in Switzerland.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 35 - Posted by: mary ellen, 6/5/2004 8:21:51 AM

Veterans know that President Bush visits hospitals and honors the military without fanfare and hoopla. Unlike Kerry who never lets us forget that he went to Viet Nam and got some medals for an ouchy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 36 - Posted by: StormCnter, 6/5/2004 8:24:39 AM

I do not know a single veteran who does not despise Kerry. And their disdain for the man runs too deep for a few smooth-over words from Kerry's hangers-on to fix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 37 - Posted by: Dolley Madison, 6/5/2004 8:28:34 AM

This is a perfect, classic example of how the leftists use polls for propaganda; first, they tell you something that is true and that you already know to be true to pull you into the poll: "Vets Favor Bush" says the poll. Well, DUH! says you and I.

Then the clinker that they hope to make you buy: "although even veterans question how well things are going for the U.S. in Iraq and whether the war is worth the costs, a CBS News poll finds" WHAT vets have these questions? If I had these questions, I would not even be in the military.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 38 - Posted by: acidkibitzer, 6/5/2004 9:19:48 AM

Kerry, friend to tax and spend Dems, fringe leftists and anti-gunners, served a mere four, yes, four months in Vietnam, but wishes to present himself to the voter as a war hero.

Most officers of all branches of the Armed Forces who served in Vietnam did repeated year-tours of Vietnam because they wanted to serve and to advance in rank. That is what real military men do.

Kerry is as phony as a Clinton.

The Demosocialists are getting desperate. I suggest the Secret Service triple the guards around President Bush and other high administration officials.

Democrats have considered assasination before, for example during the Kerry meetings with communists in Kansas City in the 70s, and the Dem group in Florida who recently openly called for the assassiation of Sec. Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

The FBI no doubt have discovered other plots where Democrats planned to kill their opponents or attempt a military coup.

This is serious business with high stakes. It would be naive to think that there are not some people who would not allow a mere life to stand in the way of huge fortunes and power.

>>My war is still ongoing. It will be over when Kerry goes down in flames.<<

Very well said. As to why he won't release his records in full is because they will show he had nothing to do with Ted Peck's and his swift boat #94's actions that Kerry claims as his own.

Pseudofantastica logica, that's how his true character manifests itself.

Poll was taken May 20-23. Help me understand why it took CBS 2 weeks to publish results? Worst spin they could come up with was by focusing on 170 of 1113 respondents?

Must be they wanted us to see the vets had a negative view of the Iraqi front in the war – especially the prison scandal – albeit slightly less negative than the general population. THIS WAY TOO, THEY DON’T NEED TO MENTION THE IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED IN THE 2 WEEKS SINCE THE POLL WAS TAKEN.

I’d love to know how they asked their questions. NEVERMIND, I think I know.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 43 - Posted by: ProudTexan, 6/5/2004 10:05:08 AM

PV, Good luck, I’ll be watching for ya.

My bet is though that the Presstitutes show a very peaceful, supportive public in Boston, but a group of 50 protesters in NY will look like a million mom march.

& GD, so very well said. W’s service was so very much more honorable that “LiveShot’s” 4 months of preening for the cameras, faked injuries and war crimes. I’m glad to see you recognize the very important part the reservists played in Viet Nam, especially the ANG. I’m hoping you’re sincere in your conversion not that someone has stolen your password. (/S) For the record though, “most Veterans favor Dubya” because of his actions as CIC. We look to issues of 30 years ago for indications of character (W had it, LiveShot didn’t). But the most recent behavior under fire is so much more important.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 45 - Posted by: reality, 6/5/2004 10:30:43 AM

# 30 has the right idea. President Bush loves and respects the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen, in fact all the service members past and present. J. Fonda Kerry shows disdain for the efforts of those troops and considers himself in a class above them.

The refrain of the old engineer drinking song is something like "we don't give a damn for any old man who don't give a damn for us".

that should sum up our feelings for the turncoat.

Reply 46 - Posted by: jleev, 6/5/2004 10:39:42 AM

I too admire George Bush's National Guard experience. Lets see was it a 4 or 5 year commitment? And kerry served 4 months faking injuries to get the heck out. And clinton let's see, the dimocrats fav, how much time did he serve? Oh yeah--zero.
Libs are so stupid.

I'm sure the service you provided to your country was closer to BJ's than President Bush's, so you haven't earned the right to comment on anyone's service.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply 48 - Posted by: Publius3457, 6/5/2004 11:29:03 AM

I think veterans have been very impressed with EffinKerry's treason after coming home after having served honorably. They view him as a traitor, which is why the majority support the President.

Mocking the President's National Guard Service only makes veterans of the Guard angrier, and brings more of them into the President's camp.

So keep it up, Leftist dolts! You help the get the President reelected every time you bring up the subject! Thanks!

Try doing a search for clinton with any troops. I did a very long one..... could not find even one that showed throngs of troops eager to touch him or showing enthusiasm. When he was shown with troops, it would be only a few, unsmiling, or walking with two or three who were obviously instructed to show him around or something.

Contrast that with the happy faces of our military any time GW shows up! No poll needed there!

I'm a vet, and I favor W, so darn the luck, no Ramadan cards for me this winter.

Hey #15, how about carrying a pair of undies-on-a-stick with a sign saying, "At least our POWS have heads to put these on."

On your flip flops I'd put "in '70, Kerry said I was a baby killer. Now he says I'm a hero."

Hanoi kerry has a merry band of what, 2, 3 Veterans, maybe, who knows???? And they have been promised a position, for sure, if he gets elected, plus they are being paid to follow kawliga lurch around. Didn't Hanoi lurch turn the boat too fast, caused a man overboard, than turned around and saved???? him???? Another plot for an unearned Medal!!!!! Then Hanoi lurch kerry convened with the enemy in Vietnam, not about POW's, but to get his cousin a lucrative business deal there to make billions. Typical RAT, always thinking of themselves, is lurch Hanoi kerry.

This retired reservist (and active duty person) knows that the president's ANG service was within the standards provided, since the ANG and the reserves operate under the same standard.

Glad to see that you've realized that, too, #26. Wink

This retired reservist will also be casting her vote for President Bush.

GD, I am impressed too. He served and then didn’t go around claiming everyone else in the military were a rapist, murderers and druggies, like Hanoi Kerry.
I see where Kerry said he would support the military like he always has. Was that before or after he flipped the bird at a Vietnam Veteran in front of a group of school children?

As for sign suggestions...how about mentioning that you are not honored in the North Viet Nam museum as a friend of NVN.
or 'substance over symbolism', 'surrender is not the best option' or 'do you know that you are drinking grape kool-aid?' or 'Do you believe in Arkanicide?'

Kerry's hoping for one million vets? may sound impressive to the media, but...

not a lot out of 26 million, of which 8 million are vietnam vets. That doesnt include active, reserve, guard

census facts

Doug,

It's running more like 95% of internet using Viet Vets from what I can tell. Could be less for those that get there news only from the major TV networks, the NY Times, and the Washrag. CBS/Gallup has Bush up by 13 among "veterans" ---not exactly a conservative source. Laughing

Thanks, Ruthie! I'm guessing 80% vets for Bush this year; I think he's going to get at least an extra 15% from their dislike of Kerry. And yes, it's still a Marine thread.

I know polls aren't always exact in their predictions, but 80%? I don't think so.

Tom,

Hmmm, Bush up by 13. You have him up by 60. One of you isn't close.

It's 6am here on the right coast . . . . . much earlier on the left coast Smile
