I just heard a talk radio host read an article (I think from the Boston Globe) that says John Kerry's Honorable Discharge was issued on March 12th, 2001!!!!!!!!!
Say what?????
Can someone confirm this? _________________ Pete Fanning

Having downloaded his records from the campaign website, I did find this date on his DD 215 (Correction to DD 214). The 215, dated 12 Mar 2001, indicates his "seperation date" as being 03-01-70. This is the same date as on the 214, except that form listed the date as his "transfer to Navy Reserve." There is also a deletion of the Vietnam Service Medal and an addition of the same medal, with 4 stars. Also 2 RVN awards are added.
I don't know about anyone else, but 30 years after my discharge, I don't really care about corrections to my DD 214. Did he initiate these changes himself? Why is it important to make it appear that he was released from all Navy ties in 1970? Could it be that it would be against the UCMJ and federal law to be meeting with the Viet Cong & North Vietnamese while still in the USNR?
Am I the only one that thinks JK should be doing time in a federal prison? _________________ Phil Toth

No, you're not the only one. Here's another interesting question: since Kerry spent that many years in the Navy reserve, and was a decorated war hero (all those medals apply towards promotion points), doesn't it seem a bit strange that he didn't get a promotion during that Reserve time, assuming it was all counted as "good" time? Any reason to dispute my conclusion that he should have gotten at least one promotion during those years? |

No promotion with out some level of participation - my guess is that the reason he was finally discharged in '78 was because the Navy bounced him due to failure to make a mandatory promotion to 0-4. No partication=no promotion. |
