My brother-in-law, who did two tours in Vietnam with the Navy, tonight told me that he twice got shrapnel fragments in both his neck and his arm. Both times he had the frags removed and had dressings applied and went back to work. He never thought of seeking a PH.

His opinion was and is that you had to be really wounded to get a PH.

His name is Joe Cusick, and he is, as are all you vets, my hero(es).

My uncle was the same way. As a marine he took it in the leg (came out years later) from a mine that took out the people standing next to him. He bandaged it up, helped his budies, never even considered a purple heart.

True heros do not seek out medals. Those that receive them rarely discuss them.
