Quote: | NEW KERRY MEDAL FLAP
September 15, 2004 -- A newly surfaced document from John Kerry's Navy record says he shot a lone, wounded enemy who was running away in the incident that led to his Silver Star, his highest military decoration.
Members of the anti-Kerry Swift Boat Veterans for Truth say the report vindicates their claim that Kerry didn't show the kind of valor that merits a Silver Star. The after-action report was obtained from the Navy archives by syndicated TV commentator Mark Hyman of "The Point." A Navy official confirmed its authenticity.
John O'Neill, a leader of the Swift Vets running anti-Kerry TV ads, said the document shows Kerry "was pursuing a wounded man and not charging alone into superior numbers and intense fire," as his Silver Star citation claims. Deborah Orin

OK, I think I get it.
Kerry wrote a very embellished AAR and Rood wrote a more accurate one.
The Kerry AAR has yet to surface because Rood's report was enough to support the original citation.
When Kerry decided to ammend / upgrade the citation the first time he removed
the verbage about the lone killing of the wounded and fleeing enemy
and destroyed or removed his own embellished AAR from the files.
The final upgrade of the citation might not have been possible if the conflicting AARs had to be dealt with.
Is there a Navy investigation into this?
How would the Navy upon finding this award inappropriate, rectify the situation? _________________ America voted for solid LEADERSHIP and gave "W" a mandate to carry on.

The Democrat position is that the Navy records are the definitive record and whatever 250 other people remember is fabrication. If this document shows that these fabrications are more correct than not, then, what is in the rest of the records Kerry will not release. The Democratic position is that the allegations are what is important in the "Rathergate documents", but, allegations against Kerry are lies. _________________ VietNam 1970-1971 |
