Months ago when attention was first being given to time gaps in GW Bush's ANG activities, I read where the fighter jet that Bush had been training others to fly was being phased out. With respect to allegations that Bush had been AWOL, the aspect of Bush's jet being phased out led me to consider the following possibility. Bush may not have had enough time left in the ANG to make retraining him for another jet worth the expense. If so, it wouldn't surprise me if Bush got "mothballed" along with his jet, the ANG simply telling Bush to stay out of trouble and call in every once in awhile until his time was up.

Any insights?

That's what several articles discussing his service have put forth. Makes sense to me.
