Sorry to make this a new topic, but, wanted someone to verify this.
Went over to John Kerry Official Website

http://www.johnkerry.com/

did they very recently change the military timeline? New timeline dates
do not match Navy Records on website.
DD214 - Jan 1, 1970
Release from Active Duty - Jan 1, 1970
Military History - Jan 1, 1970 Release from Active Duty
July 1, 1972 Transferred to Standy Reserve
Honorable Discharge - Feb - 1978

TimeLine from Official Website:

Quote:
January 1, 1970 Kerry promoted to (full) Lieutenant

January 3, 1970 Kerry requests discharge

March 1, 1970 Kerry’s date of separation from Active Duty

April 29, 1970 Kerry listed as Registrant who has completed service

They have his Transfer to Standby Documentation -
Two pages-
First Page lists date of March 1, 1970
Second Page has this date modified to July 1, 1972

The April 29, 1970 date on timeline does anyone know where this date
comes from, any record out there? This does not match any records
I have seen.

That looks like his registration and listing with the Draft board as someone who has already served.

Would the draft board have a record of this, or registration?

This is the date shown on Kerry's Selective Service Classification Record for when he was classified 4A. A PDF of the record is available at:

http://www.betrayed-vietnam-vet.info/files/classification_record1.pdf

But this date has nothing to do with his official military status. That just happens to be the date that his local draft baord recognized the change in his status and reclassified him.

Does that mean he was in active reserve when he went to Paris?

Back in the 1970s we had a 6 year obligation, no matter how much time you served active. If he enlisted in 1966, he still had until 1972 to serve, either active or inactive reserve.

Kerry's web site service timeline is all wacked. They have him leaving Nam in April 69 (when it was March 69)
and his date of separation from active duty as 3/1/70

don't know how picky this is, but I have a Kerry orders doc that shows a detached date of 1/2/70, 1 day of travel, then listing the seperation from active duty date as 2400 on 1/3/70.

His DD-214 shows his terminal date of reserve obligation as
2/17/72. (this would appear to be right for a 6 year obligation based on a 2/18/66 enlistment date)
Kinda conflicts with the 7/1/72 transfer to Standby Reserve date. document

I also found what I think is Kerry's SS#...does anybody care ?

We definitely don't want it posted here, but a couple of our researchers might find it useful, so they can PM you.

Kerry's Official Website is like a shell game -

What is the difference between InActive in Naval Reserves and
Standby InActive?
Below are discrepancies on his own Official Website between the
released Navy Documents (ND) and the Military Timeline (MT)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ND -Kerry requests early release from Active Duty on Nov 21, 1970
MT - Kerry says he requested early release on Jan 3, 1970
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ND - Jan 3, 1970 -Released from Active Duty, tranferred to Reserve (Inactive)

MT- Kerry says March 1, 1970 Separation from Active Duty (no mention of Reserves)

*DD215 Dated Feb 2000 has correction to original DD214 changing separation date to March 1, 1970
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MT -April 29, 1970 Kerry listed as registrant who completed
service (no documentation on website, last date of service for timeline)
ND - Selective Service Record (from other source) reflects Kerry's
change to 4A on April 29, 1970

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Navy Document - no mention onTimeline
Transfer to Standby Reserve (Inactive)
August, 1972 Addendum changes
date of change to Standby/Inactive to
July 1, 1972 from April 1, 1972
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Navy Document - No mention on Timeline
Feb 16, 1978 Honorably Discharged

Aloha Al,
Kerry's first date of service was Feb 18- 1966
He went on Standby/Inactive on July 1 - 1972

Why did he do that? This was past his 6 year obligation, or did it have to
do with his monkeying around with his getting out of Active duty too soon?
He stayed Standby until 1978, yet there isn't any records of what he
did while in the Reserves from 1970 until 1978. Does anyone out there
who was in the Reserves in Mass. remember seeing Kerry show up?
