I'm voting tomorrow too!
I won't mess with a lawsuit, I just don't have that kind of energy.
I think he got a wake up call with the people here emailing him and he'll be even more woken up tomorrow when his advertisers begin to call him.
Thats enough for me. I don't want to be vindictive. _________________ Deborah

Send it to Neil Boortz as well. He has a lot of stations down in Florida. Go to boortz.com. He takes NO prisoners! |

hell debbie, a 1st year law student would be too smart to try and file and suit, but it'd still be fun to razz the guy...however, you have definitely been burning the midnight oil/ tons of energy elsewhere...the guy is a rude slimeball and I hope your hubby calls the SOB out...in the mean time, hopefully, your efforts to date will cause him aggravation enough...still say he needs lessons in how to talk to a lady... as far as tomorrow goes...hoo rah! Deborah -
You have really struck a nerve with this editor. I tend to believe him when he says he runs a little local Mayberry newspaper and is not used to being deluged with political stuff.
This is not to excuse his vile initial response to you. Totally over the top.
I think I would not press this small fish too much, however. His long second response contained considerable conciliatory language. As the author of the model letter in the other thread, however, I am surprised that he thought it contained much of the same verbiage found in so much of his 'Bush mail'. My letter was just trying to cram as much as I could into the 250-word limit imposed by my paper's editor and didn't think I was using platitudes.
Anyway, sorry for the ordeal you've been through with this. You're a heroine in my book.

I agree he is a small fish and I don't intend to do anything further with him however emails went out to Rush and Hannity and Drudge and umm Boortz and his advertisers. I have no idea what they will or won't want to do with it.
I don't think the content of the piece had anything at all to do with his response. He was only making excuses. He basically blamed Bush!
At any rate, you did a great job of putting many of the important points into one 250 word letter and I was happy to do what I could to get the word out. _________________ Deborah

No, he didn't say that he was sorry, but that's more than I thought you would get out of him. |

dmack: You are my hero.
It is THAT kind of action, ladies and gentlemen, that gets right up in the faces of these fascists.
Good job, everyone, I am only sorry I missed all the fun.
I am going to turn in now. Added to my growing prayer list is, "...and God please bless everyone at Swift Boat Vets..." |

This morning I got another email from Mr. Field. Subject: My non-apology apology.
Quote: | Ms. Mack
You're right on several accounts. You just got a non-apology apology in
my
last email. That's not good enough. This is a real apology. My initial
one-liner to you was done in haste and obviously off the mark. I just
got
mad and fired it off. Not a lot of thought went into it, just emotion
and
anger at being called a traitor and terrorist. Not by you, as you
pointed
out and you're absolutely right. You're email was simply political, and
while it was unsolicited and I'd rather not get them, it was certainly
OK in
terms of content. My response was a classic case of guilt by
association,
which is almost never right.
You are wrong on one account, however. I have received what I call mass
emails accusing me of being a traitor, a terrorist and a dictator
(dictator?) and of printing anti-Bush and pro-Kerry stories. And they
all
have come from folks claiming to be pro-Bush and anti-Kerry. I can't
help
that. But the truth is -- and anyone who has read our small weekly
knows
this -- my paper has never printed a national political story. I know
because it's my newspaper. I founded it solely to cover local community
news....and we do that very well. You may find it hard to swallow but
that
is the case.
None of that really matters to you, Im sure, and it is kind of beside
the
point. My real point is that in a quick moment of anger I fired off an
email
that basically used the same tactic I was so mad about in the first
place.
That was absolutely not right and is not what I am about. I really am
sorry
you were on the receiving end. I, too, have relatives who fought in
Germany
against fascism and come from a family with a long history of military
service and conservative politics. (As a child I worked with my dad on
Barry
Goldwater's campaign. As a teen I worked with my mom for Richard
Nixon.)
Please accept this humble apology.
M. Field |
That is much better. I sent him this:
Thanks to all of you who emailed and gave me the moral support to "get in his face".

There's a lot of venom going around the election, and I don't suppose that it's all from Kerry's camp. It's easy to get too carried away when you believe strongly in something. _________________ -I'm Jim, and I approve what I write, unless it's wrong.
