When I left Air Force EAD in '69 as a Reserve officer, my temporary grade was Captain while my permanent Reserve grade was 1LT. Shortly after leaving EAD (while serving in the AF reserve) I was sent a letter saying that since I had served on EAD as a Captain, I could submit a written request that my permanent reserve grade be made Captain - which I did.

Reserve promotions come a lot slower than they do on active duty, and I then spent the next 9 years as a Captain before making Major, but that's another story.....
