gentlemen,
i read some where (and now cannot remember where) that
one of the Senators that was targeted by the VVAW for
assasination was later shot dead outside his apartment.
is that true? and what year was that? did they ever find
who did it?

i realize the VVAW says it voted down the idea of assasination.

and also, what is Kerry's latest stand on being at that meeting?
has he decided if he was not there, was there and left early, was
there but voted no, or all of the above? Wink

thanks again for any help guys... you are a fountain of info.

November 12 - 15, 1971 -- the VVAW leadership meets in Kansas City. Fearing surveillance by authorities, the group relocates the meeting to another building. They debate, then vote down a plan to assassinate several pro-war U.S. Senators including John Stennis, Strom Thurmond, John Tower, Jesse Helms. Despite John Kerry's claim to have left the VVAW before this event, several witnesses, meeting minutes and FBI records eventually place Kerry at the Kansas City meeting.
~~~~~~~~~~
Senator Stennis, Democratic senator from Mississippi, the chairman of the powerful Armed Forces Committee: In Jan 1973 he was shot twice during a holdup attempt in his front yard in northwest Washington, D. C. Although doctors didn't at first give much hope of Senator Stennis' survival, then later of ever walking again, he surprised practically everyone and recovered almost completely.
There is a lot of good information there.You can find it in' vets only.' Laughing I don't put it in this forum b/c of the "bottom feeders".
thank you Kate for your help on that, i didn't know the senator survived.
i find it a little coincidental.. that one of them actually was shot... but then i'm just a little suspicous about anything connected with the VVAW.
There's as much evidence that he was shot by VVAW as there is that he was shot by someone attempting to discredit the antiwar movement. 30 years after the event, it's still serving the latter purpose.
Why not show this evidence that a senator was shot trying to discredit the anti-war left?
The anti-war left discredited themselves and comments by Vo Ngyuen Giap and Bui Tin support that discreditation.
Whoa! I suggest we reign it in a bit. Unless there is solid proof the VVAW was involved or responsible for the "robbery", that explanation should not be put forth.
To do so puts us in the same shoes as Mr. Kerry who used speculation, false testimony and outright falsehoods to further his position.
Our greatest strength is to present hard, proven, undeniable facts, of which there are an abundance, showing the senator from Massachusetts is unfit to lead our country.
It is facts, not speculation or gossip that can bury this cretin.
Management concurs with Goofydog. Let's drop the Stennis shooting in this forum. Let's leave it for others to speculate about. We're looking for Truth and trying to get it out to the voters.
That's my point: there's as much evidence for either side, which is to say none. Nothing except innuendo. And I suspect that if I hadn't challenged this conspiracy/innuendo mongering, ASPB wouldn't have nixed it.
Anyway, after this response, I'll let it drop.
Vo Ngyuen Giap? Oh yeah, Hey Greenhat, ever find that mythical 1985 memoir yet? It's an urban myth, you know.
