I can just see it now. The rumored headlines for tomorrow saying that Bush is going to ask for an increased appropriations bill to support the war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq is going to be played by the perpetuators of this fraud to support this line from LewWaters posting of the letter being sent out to students:
Quote: | The Congress has added $28 million to the 2004 selective service system budget to prepare for this military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. |

dmack: stay on this if you can. All kidding aside, it would be great to blow this open in the next few days. Let me know if you need some help tracking this, but I think you ought to contact Bush/Cheney and tell them what you have. Did you get a copy of this document?

He says he doesnt have a copy, his friends just showed him the letter. Uhhuh , even so, I have asked him to get a copy of it. I'll forward the info to Bush's campaign offices as well. _________________ Deborah

Yeah, but he sounds like such a mouth-breather. I don't know if you can save him, doctor!
Still, we'll need the evidence!
That means you'll have to interact with the foulmouthed youth even more. If you are willing, then you are a great patriot.
I think I'd rather face down small-arms fire. At least you could then call in some close air support to suppress the BS.!!!!

I do agree, should be a type of IQ test for voting. I turned 18 about the same time the vote was given to 18 year olds. I chose not to vote because I felt that I'd only be voting for who Mom & Dad thought was best, not doing research myself. Now my daughter who is almost 21 will be voting for the first time, by absentee ballot. I looked at the ballot and said, she's not capable of doing this correctly and maybe I should do it for her. If she isn't capable of doing it correctly, should she be voting? But I had faith in her and sent it to her, along with a photo filled out by me showing her how to mark her own ballot. |
Emphasis added above. Shouldn't this apply to half the state of Florida?? If they can't read and follow the directions, or ask for help if they don't understand, should they be voting? I mean, my second-grader knows you ask for help if you don't understand the directions!
P.S. No offense to all you Floridians who vote with no problems, we know you're out there! |

My real fear was that there were two steps she has to go through with two separate envelopes because this is the first time she is voting and is doing so absentee. There's a list of documents, she needs to send one of in a separate envelope from the ballot (3 of which are a forger's dream, easy to forge. I know, because I legally forge documents needed by Undercover law enforcement agents.) And then there's the black pen. She'd probably do fine, but I'm so concerned that she might leave one "t" uncrossed and her ballot not count.
I did get a new understanding of confusing ballots when I saw the now famous Ohio ballot. Looked like they got the idea from Florida 2000, "Hey that's a good idea! What if we made a real confusing ballot but only confusing when it comes to the Republican candidates." |

No offense meant to your daughter, of course, Roon. She's not in a position to ask questions, and it's her first time voting. That doesn't apply to the people who screamed "I was disenfranchised!" in 2000. |

No offense taken. I am still of the opinion 30 years after I became 18, that 18 year olds are for the most part, not mature enough to vote, of course she's 20. But I want her to vote to cancel Mary Poppin's vote. I hear Mary lost her marbles about 10 years ago. |

Deb I hope you can get a copy of the letter, and just as important if it was sent snail mail the envelope it was sent in, if it still exsits. If those letters are being sent though the mail system then thats "mail fraud" and that in itself is a big offence.
Even if the return address has been falsified to lmake them look like they came from the SS, there will also be a "cancellation stamp" which will tell you where it was really sent from. I would really love to get my hands on one of those dudes. I'm going to have to check around ASU and see if anyone has gotten one of those turkies. _________________ Proud to be an American! and member of the PAJAMAHADEEN

I was just over looking at a Democratic Blog site to see how they are reacting to Navy Chief's breaking story about the Vietnamese memos found. I saw this posted. Maybe a good place to send the draft letter and see if they have the GUTS to address it or if this posting was just for Republican campaign letters.
Quote: | We are looking for examples of false or misleading political mail regarding the presidential campaign. If you receive any, please send them to us.
We promise not to use your name without your permission, but we won't be able to return the material you send. Please do include your name and a telephone number or email address where we might contact you in case we have questions.
The kind of mail we are looking for might be sent by the campaigns, or political parties, or independent groups. Typically these mailings are targeted to specific groups -- such as older voters, minority groups or gun owners, for example. Since the messages aren't intended for a general audience and are seldom seen by political reporters, those who send them sometimes take more liberties with the facts than they would in TV or radio advertising that is seen and heard by everybody.
With your help, we hope to shed some new light on this sort of tactic and hold politicians accountable for any deceptions we can uncover.
