The Red Sox: Haven't they already paid enough?
On October 10, in the second debate, Senator Kerry said, "The president, I don't think, is living in a world of reality, with respect to the environment. Now, if you're a Red Sox fan, that's okay. But if you're a president, it's not."
What was John Kerry suggesting: that Red Sox fans were wrong to hope for a championship? That they were living in a dream world if they thought they could defeat their bete noir (as Senator Kerry might say), the Yankees?
What has happened since his thoughtless jibe?
On October 12, the Red Sox lost Game 1, 7-10.
On October 13, the Red Sox lost Game 2, 1-3.
On October 16, the Red Sox lost Game 3, 8-19.
Three outs away from a sweep, David "Don't Call Me Manny" Ortiz blasts a homer in the 12th to give the Red Sox the win in Game 4.
The Red Sox win Game 5, with another homer and game-winning single from David Ortiz.
NEW! Red Sox make history! The Red Sox win Game 6, thanks to Curt Schilling's ability and willingness to pitch with a dislocated ankle tendon ("Red Sox" for real.) When asked about Yankee Alex Rodriquez' "bush league" play, Curt replied, "It was a 'Kerry league' play."
The Red Sox win the pennant in Game 7, 10-3. It is the first time in post-season history that any team has overcome a 0-3 deficit.
The Red Sox demonstrated that, contrary to Kerry's claim, their fans do live in the world of reality.
Congratulations!
Looks like he stepped in it again Oooops
