Getting a PH is like bragging. And there's nothing wrong with that. If you got shot at, hit, and lived; that's honest braggin' rights.

Well then, Kerry pretty much did all of the above. There may not have been much (or any) shooting when he got his first PH, but there sure was for the other two.

Doug

You're right Doug, PH 2 & 3 are totally legitimate in a technical sense. Pragmatically, based upon the personal experience of most Nam era combat vets, they're wimp wounds; but that's just opinion.. What's more important is there was a "freedom bird" ticket attached to the "late award" and push for PH1.

Remember, Kerry is on record as saying that be bailed out "because his fiancee, Julia Thorne was worried about him" Even that was a lie in my book. He'd punched his "war hero" ticket and wanted to take his sorry ass home to run for Congress from Massacommunists. And then.....Wintersoldier and VVAW!

As I've said before, without VVAW and Wintersoldier plus the current "I'm a war hero" campaign, 35 year-old history wouldn't matter squat in current politics.

Kerry is a opportunistic political hack and alway has been. I don't want him as CIC in a time of war for our entire culture regardless of '69 to '75.

I hope that most Americans will agree come November 2nd.

RB,

Do you have a source for the "crewman" quote? I've seen it before but haven't been able to attribute or confirm it. Furthermore, I think you're talking about PH1 from Dec of '68. I know the award was "the last or next to last awarded" but I believe the "action" was the first.

If you are referring to the PH Kerry received on March 13, 1969, that description is 100% incorrect.

To refresh your memory, the March 13 incident was when the SF guy (Jim Rassmann) was blown off a boat by a mine. There was no M-79 involved, and it wasn't raining. It was on the Bay Hap River, a few miles down from the village I lived in at the time, and where the Swifts had just dropped us off minutes before it happened.

Except I've been reading about those purple hearts of his...

I would have been too embarressed to put in for a PH for the lame-åss wounds he got in a couple of those. I mean... a metal splinter treated with a pair of tweezers and a band-aid? Comeawn...

Funny thing is, we're seeing the same thing from our deployment.

Guys that had been injured, but the CO had determined didn't warrant a PH, are resubmitting their documents to stateside PH boards. This requires more documentation than when in theater, but we've had some troops who've submitted false sworn statements to such boards after they had been evacced home for injuries. The boards dont know any better, so they tend to believe the evacced troop. We've had to submit rebuttal statements by eyewitnesses to stop these phonies.

It is amazing what some will do to get a scrap of ribbon to pin on their chest thay they didnt earn. But, they don't care about honor, evidently.

You think that's bad. Recently a woman nurse in Topeka, Ks, was discovered to have lied about having survived the Bataan Death March in WWII.

I suspect that the "crewman" was referring to the 1st incident which provided the 3rd PH. The 1st incident did involve an M-79 exploding too close (although not on the Bo Di) but the PH didn't come until much later and might have been approved to encourage Kerry to leave Nam. The comingling of facts raises questions about his story.
