Did I read that right? The widow of the one in the picture agrees with Michael Moore and thinks her husband died for oil?

Mother,
Just spoke with my son who is an attorney. He thinks that relatives might be able to go after MM for unauthorized use of the images. But, more than likely, they would only succeed in having the portrait removed from his website unless he's making money off the unathorized use.

Quote:
I think what Michael Moore was trying to state is this: President Bush has the blood of all the fallen soldiers on HIS hands. The question to me is, what kind of man would send our youth to war for no other reason than for power and control of middle east oil? It's not a fact that is easy to admit, but it the facts- give me on legitimate reason we invaded that country- don't even try the lame excuses of WMDs or Sudam being a threat to the US, or to fight terrorism. They have all been discredited. Do you realize that all the US military bases in Afganistan are located on an oil pipeline? The whole Bush gang want to control the area and get control of the OIL. And they do in the name of God. Period. I'll still pray for the soldiers.

Tell your ill informed friend that at the exact same time, with the exact same information (he is on the Senate Intelligence committee), her choice for President, Kerry, came to the exact same conclusions about Iraq as the President (in fact, he did so long before Bush became President, sometime around 1997). The difference is that Bush had to make the decision at the time, and with 9/11 fresh in his mind, assume the worst case scenario in order to be true to his oath to protect the country. Kerry agreed then, but now, with the advantage of hindsight, he Monday morning quarterbacks the decisions. There was no "if you knew then what you know now" issue at the time of the President's decision. Kerry can use his 20/20 hindsight today to his advantage, but at the time, the 20/20 hindsight said Iraq had WMDs. Kerry, the Democrats, the Europeans, even Hussein, thought he had WMDs. We are still not absolutely sure. There are plenty of sources of his quotes of the time to prove it.

The old canard about going in after Iraq's oil is Bravo Sierra. If we really wanted it, we could have dealt with Saddam and bought oil behind the scenes in violation of the UN resolutions, just like France, Germany and Russia. And the price of oil today should really put the lie to her statement.

As for the images, the soldiers are not public figures, and using their images to falsely portray them as having an opinion of the war or the Predident that they in fact did not have might be construed as some sort of slander. I am no legal beagle, but that makes some kind of sense to me.

No, you didn't read it right, but it's probably confusing. A friend in the community thinks we went for oil. The widow, to my knowledge, knows nothing about the picture at MM's site, although I have alerted a mutual family friend to this discussion and if he sees fit, to share it with them before they find out the hard way.

Went to the football game tonight and got another, "Oh, I'm so sorry."
About my son enlisting in the Corps. "There's no fighting those terrorists, all they care about is killing."

"Yeah," I replied.

Thank you for the lastest input. Still waiting for a reply from the Secret Service. They are charged with protecting the President's personally designated protectees. I think I'll submit an email to our Rep. and Senator -great folks -about the law that protects the coffin photographs.

And no, I wasn't referring to Senator What's his name? Let me think. Hmmmm. Been a long time since anyone's heard from him here.
Edmunds, Edson, Ed-something. Wouldn't ask him to tie my shoe.

On second thought. Maybe I would. Then I could spit shine his hair.

Got logged in to www.michaelmoore.com just to see what else is up.

Under the link "How to Support the American Soldier and Help the People of Iraq", I thought you should see this. Deja Vu?

Veterans Against the Iraq War

"Veterans Against Iraq War is a coalition of American veterans who support our troops but oppose war with Iraq or any other nation that does not pose a clear and present danger to our people and nation."

"Until and unless the current U.S. Administration provides evidence which clearly demonstrates that Iraq or any other nation poses a clear, direct and immediate danger to our country, we oppose all of this Administration's pre-emptive and unilateral military activities in Iraq. Furthermore, we cannot support any war that is initiated without a formal Declaration of War by Congress, as our Constitution requires."

"Military Families Speak Out is an organization of people who are opposed to war in Iraq and who have relatives or loved ones in the military. We were formed in November of 2002 and have contacts with military families throughout the United States, and in other countries around the world.

"As people with family members and loved ones in the military, we have both a special need and a unique role to play in speaking out against war in Iraq. It is our loved ones who are, or have been, or will be on the battlefront. It is our loved ones who are risking injury and death. It is our loved ones who are returning scarred from their experiences. It is our loved ones who will have to live with the injuries and deaths among innocent Iraqi civilians."

I support our troops also. And their CIC.

These ADULT people who joined an ALL VOLUNTEER military should

accept it or go to Canada. They were not deceived when they went into

the military were they? it's still like it was years ago? You go where and

do what you are told to? (within reason of decency - not the stuff like in
Iraq prison or other war crimes).

Congress voted to give CIC the power to go into war. and he did.

he is their CIC. These people are just following the lead of Kerry....

maybe they are more like him than we think.... they know the agenda

and are supporting it and instigating it. If their 'loved ones' end up having

problems when they come home, who will they blame then?

I think it should be up to the troops and their families.... same as i do the showing of the caskets coming home. they should get to vote on it (if it comes to certain people in the US getting the right to have the pics)

I like the idea of turning it on MM.... if there is nothing we can do to stop it.

So sad he is exploiting them.

Isn't that somewhere in the Bible? a verse about what satan means for evil, God will use for good?

I had planned on someday having a wall in my trailer 'papered' with the photos of those who died in Afghan and Iraqi wars as a tribute .... and to never forget - didn't know where I'd get all the photos or names.... maybe i'll just print this pic out and frame it also.... besides I have no idea when or if I'll ever be able to afford that 'mobile home of my dreams'!
and in the little trailer I live in now, I trip over the dog! Not much wall space either. Smile

We have a lot of information in our Resources forum about how the VVAW has resurrected its cause under new banners - Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans Against the Iraq War.

Same ol' tired anti-military, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist propaganda being dished out to a whole new generation of soldiers.

They're finding it even more difficult to find members than in the 70's though - the people who are fighting this war are volunteers.

Many are volunteers because of 9-11.

They know what they're fighting for.

N3,
VVAW has a link to both groups on their website. Appear to be the same/same. Veterans Against the Iraq War site shows a photo of protestors carrying a banner labelled 'IVAW'. Kinda wonder about their sponsor(s).

The question for our time is not whether all men are brothers. That question has been answered by God who placed us on this earth together. The question is whether we have the strength and the will to make the brotherhood of man the guiding principle of our daily lives.
--John F. Kennedy

Got two more -today- as our soldiers get it on in Iraq -about my son enlisting:

1. I'm so sorry.
2. It'll make a man out of him.

Also, contacted Elizabeth Dole's office.

Just wanted you to know...

I believe the pictures of our war dead are no longer posted on Michael Moore's website. If anyone sees them ever, ever, ever, ever, please let me know.

However, a beautiful ceremony was held yesterday at our Veteran's Park to honor, and unveil the updated plaque that now bears the name of, Sgt. Rodney Murray, US Army, Iraq. Deceased.

Immediately upon receipt of the excellent address that was given at the ceremony by the commander of our American Legion Post, I will pass it along.

Should anyone doubt what our troops are fighting for simply look to Fallujah. If this was about oil, we would secure the oil field and pipelines and that's it. Instead the Marines are fighting house to house in urban combat, possibly the most dangerous kind of combat, to cleanse that city of the vile pestilence that controlled it.

In reports aired today, Marines found a slaughter and torture house. In it, they found rooms made into cells, torture devices and a body with it's legs hacked off. Following screaming they found two hostages, in the final stages of malnutrition, delirious with hunger. This is how the "freedom fighters" treat their fellow Iraqis.

Images like this should be taped and broadcast so they are burned into memory of every American who thinks this war is only for oil.

Looking at clouds from both sides now, eh? I wonder.....Aren't there some clever hackjers out there on our side who can make hash out of the Mooreons' site??? I think it would be great to have some vilely pornographic images of Micheal Morre and John Kerry floating around the web. If they made enough people sick then it might prompt the Liberals to yell uncle and guit their nonsense. Mad
