Ohio To Go Through Statewide Vote Recount After All

A statewide recount of the presidential vote appears inevitable after a pair of third-party candidates said they have collected enough money to pay for it.

The recount would be conducted after the election results are certified in early December.

Libertarian Michael Badnarik and the Green Party's David Cobb said on Monday they raised more than $150,000 in four days, mostly in small contributions.

Ohio law requires payment of $10 per precinct for a recount, or $113,600 statewide.

Badnarik and Cobb said they aren't trying to overturn President Bush's 136,000-vote victory in Ohio, but just want to ensure that all votes were counted properly in the face of concerns about Election Day irregularities.

"Our bottom line is to stand up for the integrity of the voting process because the voting process is the heart of the democratic process," said Blair Bobier, spokesman for Cobb.

Bobier said it will be worth the price to ensure the final outcome can be trusted.

Carlo LoParo, spokesman for Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, said the actual cost to county election boards combined will be about $1.5 million.

Kerry's and moveon's lawyers not involved in this. Yeah, right. This is an attempt to overthrow the election.

Did Badnarik think he was going to win the state? this is a last ditch effort to try and overturn the election for Kerry. Why dont they worry about wisconsin which Kerry only carried by 11,000 votes?

As a matter of fact, why don't WE start organizing demands for recounts in Wisconsin?!

I think, the more of us that start ranting the way the liberal loosers are doing in Ohio in states Kerry won, like NH, WI and MN, the more we will be able to show the ridiculeness of the entire venture these losers have initiated..

I say, bring it on!!

I love how they report the recount being lead by the Greens and Libertarians when it was Kerry supporters raising all the money for the recount.

I wonder how much money they offered those party leaders to request a recount?

As if anyone in those parties gave a rat's a$$ whether their candidate got .04% or .06% of the vote.

Kerry works with his campaign behind the scenes to save embarrassment and appease his supporters. Not at all transparent. Rolling Eyes

There's something strange about the election results as posted on Yahoo.

If the state totals are added up, the total popular vote is

Bush 59,015,382
Kerry 55,417,808

but the totals on Real Clear Politics are

Bush 60,512,548
Kerry 57,166,596

Between the two counts, Bush picked up 1,497,166 votes, and Kerry picked up 1,748,788 votes. These extra votes might be from absentee ballots, provisional ballots, hanging chads, and who knows what else, but they are not reflected in state totals.

The Secretary of State of Ohio said that the number of provisional ballots (about 155,000) is only slightly more than Bush's margin in Ohio (136,483), so Kerry would have to win about 94% of them to overtake Bush (highly unlikely).

But what part of those 3-1/4 million extra votes went to each candidate IN EACH STATE? According to the state totals on Yahoo, the margin is less than 30,000 votes in six states:

NV Bush +21,567
IA Bush +13,250
NM Bush +12,256
NH Kerry +9,171
WI Kerry +11,813
DL Kerry +27,063

Probably, a lot of these extra votes were cast in places like CA, TX, and NY, where they don't matter much, but it would be nice to know about the six states above!

Incidentally, the Kerry margin among these extra votes is 251,622 votes. If they were allocated proportionately to electoral votes, this would give Kerry an extra 2,338 votes each in NV and NM, and 3,274 votes in IA--not enough to swing any of those three states toward Kerry.

I say we appoint Kerry Prime Minister of Vietnam so he can be happy......and we can be rid of him.

This continued vote counting is so bogus. The Dems are only doing this because their howling moonbat followers are going to blow a gasket if some recounts aren't done SOMEWHERE. Over on the "underground" site they are truly having a nuclear meltdown over this thing.

I think the Dems sense that if they don't do SOMETHING to placate these loons they won't vote in the next election. So they're throwing them a bone. Rolling Eyes

This is from the current link:

Candidate Electoral States Won Vote % Votes
Bush 286 31 51% 60,518,629
Kerry 252 20 48% 57,173,456

99% Precincts Reporting - Tue Nov 16, 7:41 PM ET

http://news.yahoo.com/electionresults

Less than half of those provisional ballots in Ohio will be counted, maybe far less than half. There are also the punch card type that didn't record a vote. There are 89,000 of those. Just as in Florida 2000 there is no real reason to worry. Those ballots will fall inline with the election results and won't amount to much in Kerry's favor. He already knew this. They did the math themselves and knew it would not be overturned.

Making up the 11,000 vote margin in Wisconsin is much more of a real possibility. That 11,000 vote figure is from the day after the election. It would be very interesting to see what the final number was in Wisconsin. It was most likely less than half the 11,000 figure. A recount here could throw out many of the Madison fraud that occured and tip it red.

There is a good reason why Wisconsin is the only state that RealClearPolitics projected wrong. They wern't wrong. Wink
