My ancestral heritage is 7/16 Scandinavian, 4/16 Germanic Tribal, 4/16 Sicilian and 1/16 Native American. Growing up in a family where your father is a second generation Germanic Tribal and second generation Sicilian and your mother is a third generation Scandinavian you would think there would be language and custom passed down. Not in my family. My families ancestors decided upon entering America through Ellis Island that native language would no longer be spoken and would be replaced with English and American custom. They wanted to assimilate as quick and efficiently as possible. This is not to say we were not proud of our cultural ancestry, but rather were excitedly willing and motivated participants in the American ideal. We did keep many customs, but our families quickly realized that America is the real deal and should be cherished and fought for.

There has been a lot of discussion about the teacher from CU Boulder Ward Churchill and his anti-American statements. If Ward Churchill hates America and especially the capitalistic roots which give rise to individual freedom then I propose he isn’t American. So what is Churchill? What is his ancestral heritage? He claims to be Native American by 1/8th – 1/64th by latest count, thus he really doesn’t know his Native American lineage and therefore probably doesn’t carry the bloodline. If Churchill isn’t American or Indian then what is he? He is a seditious anti-American wishing our destruction and failure in the world. A ‘New Left’ radical with an identical crisis.

To say he is a ‘New Left’ radical with an identical crisis is somewhat repetitive. I have yet to meet any radical leftist that values life, family or their cultural heritage. They are all lost souls with no history.

This reminds me of Machiavelli’s ‘The Prince’ and how the city-states and their leaders manipulate each other to the detriment of the Italian people. Lost on them was their history and identity. They had long since forsaken St. Augustine and the principles of good stewardship of people granted by natural law and replaced it with petty self interest.

One look at the European Union and we see nothing more then countries which resemble Machiavelli’s city-states searching for some kind of identity, devoid of histories lesson.

I sleep well at night knowing the European Union is a collection of bickering children and Ward Churchill is one of their spokesmen.

Ward Churchill grew up playing Cowboys and Indians and is still playing an Indian today. Some guys never grow up.
