Rumsfeld is not subject to the UCMJ, and whether torture did in fact happen is subject to an article 32 hearing. I have heard nothing about charges of torture being brought.

Greenhat,

Then you haven't been watching the news, have you. The Senate Armed Services Committee has already seen a second set of photos which, since they will not be shown publicly I can only go by what is being reported, show among other things guards sodomizing prisoners with glow sticks, beatings, a guard sodomizing a fourteen -year-old boy, and other acts that they won't even talk about! And all you can say is that you haven't heard about it!

Some poor **** of a private is going to get raked over the coals so some jackass of an officer can continue up the career ladder, and your response is "well; so what."

That's just sad.

Intelligence officers of the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq estimated that 70 percent to 90 percent of Iraqi detainees were arrested by mistake, the Red Cross said in a report that was disclosed Monday, and Red Cross observers witnessed U.S. officers mistreating Abu Ghraib prisoners by keeping them naked in total darkness in empty cells.

Yep, the additional photos were much worse than what we saw. One photo showed an anal penetration of an object protruding with visible blood.

More disturbing are credible reports that significant numbers of the detainees were mistakenly arrested. But in totalitarian societies, it's commonplace for neighbors or coworkers to report people they don't like to the secret police for them to never be heard from again.

The Red Cross formally reported this abuse in February but in meetings and memos beginning in March 2003. In keeping with "Operation Ignore" Bush and Rumsfeldt ignored this information when it was shown to them in February.

Of course, this never made it to Fox News and the US press hasn't been widely reporting this facet of the story. It permeates the international press.

The next time you're thinking it's "because we're so free" that our former allies are frightened by our power and the rest of the world hates us, think of this Red Cross report.

Geeze, I thought that my last post, which was chock-full of important information including how the Red Cross stated that 70-90% of the Iraqi detainees were mistakenly arrested, would have brought some sort of intelligent exchange!

Very first link doesn't mention anything about the Red Cross. You trying to bluff your way through this?

Very first link says this in the fifth paragraph:

That elicited a rebuttal from the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC), which said it had sent a report to the government earlier this year detailing how coalition forces were breaking the Geneva Convention in Iraq and that it had held several meetings with leaders of the coalition, urging them to end the widespread ill treatment of those in its custody.

That ^, doesn't match or support this:
