AIR AMERICA RADIO INVESTIGATED AFTER BUSH 'GUNSHOTS'

**Exclusive**

The red-hot rhetoric over Social Security on liberal talkradio network AIR AMERICA has caught the attention of the Secret Service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Government officials are reviewing a skit which aired on the network Monday evening -- a skit featuring an apparent gunshot warning to the president!

The announcer: "A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of 4 gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little bastard. [audio of gun being cocked]."

The audio production at the center of the controversy aired during opening minutes of The Randi Rhodes Show.

"What is with all the killing?" Rhodes said, laughing, after the clip aired.

"Even joking about shooting the president is a crime, let alone doing it on national radio... we are taking this very seriously," a government source explained.

Again, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to know the Old Liberal Media won't cover this story....now if Rush or Savage had done the same thing with Teddy or Reid, there would be H**L to pay and calls for the FCC to pull their license don't ya know. Twisted Evil

Air America radio host:
Punish me if I broke law
Rhodes apologizes to Bush, Secret Service for 'gunshots' skit she says was not funny

A liberal radio talk-show host who aired a comedy skit featuring an apparent gunshot warning to President Bush has apologized, and says she's not afraid of being prosecuted over the matter.

"This was just a stupid, stupid bit!" exclaimed Randi Rhodes on yesterday's broadcast on the Air America network. "But, if it crossed the line, then certainly, there must be punishment, and if there is, I want to be punished so that I can actually say 'Equal justice under law.' Anybody that has stepped over this line of law needs to be prosecuted, including me."

Her comments were sparked by a story in the Drudge Report stating federal officials were reviewing the skit.

The audio production came during the opening minutes of "The Randi Rhodes Show" Monday afternoon.

The announcer said: "A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of four gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little bastard. [audio of gun being cocked]."

"Let's not do that while I'm here in Florida," Rhodes, who broadcasts from West Palm Beach, said laughingly following the item. "Let's not arm the old people until I leave. What is with all the killing?"

A government source told Drudge, "Even joking about shooting the president is a crime, let alone doing it on national radio ... we are taking this very seriously."

A statement from Air America denies there's any federal probe taking place.

"We are not under investigation from the Secret Service," president of programming Jon Sinton said. "We regret that a produced comedy bit that was in bad taste slipped through our normal vetting process. We do acknowledge that it was an internal error and internal discipline will be enforced."

"I'm the freaking news? You gotta be kidding me!" Rhodes said yesterday, as she apologized incessantly for the sketch throughout the course of her show.

Rhodes maintains the skit was created by producers at Air America without her knowledge, and she would not have aired it had she heard it in advance. Still, she says it's her show, and she takes full responsibility.

"If the bit was understood to be a threat against the president," Rhodes explained, "I need to apologize to the president of the United States, and I do. I also need to apologize to the Secret Service [which] has a very, very serious job. If they had to take two seconds out of their day to look into me, I apologize for that. ... But where is the apology when they threaten judges from the Senate floor or from the House floor? Or where's the investigation into [WND columnist] Ann Coulter's mouth? ...

"[My apology] is sincere. I feel bad that anybody would feel threatened by comedy. That's one thing, but I also feel bad that it wasn't funny. And I also feel bad that there could be a perception that I would be advocating violence against anybody, let alone the president of the United States of America. It's no secret that I think he's a terrible president, but I don't think that anybody should have violence advocated against them in any way, shape or form ever! ... That [skit] will never see the light of day again. It was bad."

Rhodes received numerous calls of support over the matter, including one from Andrew, who identified himself as a conservative Christian in Long Island, N.Y.

"We don't agree [politically]," Andrew said, "but there's no reason why – for something like that – you should get in trouble."

Rhodes said she's been contacted by producers of NBC's "Today Show" who want her to provide them the skit to air on national television, along with an appearance by Rhodes.

"How in the world could a bad bit be worthy of a 'Today Show' segment, but the 15 years of talk radio in the wilderness of the conservative AM dial means nothing?" Rhodes asked rhetorically. "You don't become a media whore because now there's an opportunity to get your mug on the freakin' TV. It's not what I'm about."

This article looks a little deeper into Air America’s humor – (also, seems like Rhodes has done another “joke” like this before…):
Quote:
Air Assassination,” by Ben Johnson, FrontPageMag – 4/28/05

(excerpts/emphasis mine)
Frustrated by six years’ of steady reversals at the polls, the hardcore Left decided this week to foment a real coup de état: they want George W. Bush dead.

The Drudge Report has reported left-wing Air America Radio aired a spot on Monday threatening to assassinate President Bush for trying to reform Social Security. Network yacker Randi Rhodes played the following “humorous” radio drop during her afternoon drive show:

“A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn’t safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here’s your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of 4 gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little bastard. [audio of gun being cocked]. Rhodes then giggled when the spot finished playing. ….

This Wednesday, Rhodes offered a leftist apology – an expression of regret, all the while denying personal culpability and stating any wrongdoing is dwarfed by the sheer evil embodied by her political opponents.. <…>

Despite Rhodes’ continual disavowal of such humor, this was (at least) her second death threat “joke” in as many years. Last May, Rhodes suggested the solution to the Bush administration could be found in The Godfather: “Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and [sound of gunfire].” (The network also stated Donald Rumsfeld “ought to be tortured.” Those kidders!) <…>

However, the entire Left has been in a roar for the blood of the American people’s chosen candidate since before his historic re-election. Last fall, Charlie Brooker in the British leftist newspaper Guardian asked, “John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. – where are you now that we need you?” As I said last October in my article “Euro-Socialists Say: Assassinate Bush,” so-called “peace activists”: carried signs spouting such loving slogans as, “Bush is the disease. Death is the cure”; and “We Support Our Troops, When They Shoot their Officers.”

<….> The irony is this latest incitement to regicide comes even as leftists (including Rhodes) claim conservatives “openly threaten sitting judges.” The Left has revived the anti-center/right blood libel after Senate Republicans called on the full chamber to do its constitutional duty and hold a floor vote on President Bush’s judicial nominees. <…>

Among those who have commented on Air America’s recently broadcast death wish, most have equated their vitriol with that of “conservative talk radio.” This is an injustice to conservatives, who seem to recognize the few examples of inappropriate behavior from their own media representatives. …<…>

When not talking about sending the president of the United States a 44-caliber message, the Left is actively committing acts of violence against conservative speakers….<…>

Rhodes did not even offer her apology, such as it was, until two days after faux pas, and then only after the internet brought her under national scrutiny. This gives conservatives additional evidence that the hard-Left places nothing, including human life, above the realization of its political agenda – and that nothing inspires the lamest of leftist apologies except incontrovertible proof and international publicity of malfeasance. As if we needed it.

How upside-down is our thinking that these death threats to the opposition are no longer even shocking or surprising? Sad

How much more out of whack do we have to get before we wake up? I'm really not sure how much more of a strain this country can take sometimes, without breaking into civil war.

We're already in a cold war state in this country and the level of vitriol and violence is steadily escalating.

How much more will we take before we realize that we need to put the extremists on both sides where they belong - firmly on the sidelines.

Hmm... just usage of the word "bastard" could possibly get the stations that carry Air America into trouble with the FCC. It only takes one complaint for them to launch an investigation.....

The sorry fact I am afraid is that nothing will be done.

I just watched 'Left of the Dial" on HBO gheesh they are something to behold. It was fun to watch them on election night.

Randi Rhoades was disapointed that Micheal Moore did not know her..lol

remember you heard it here, nothing will be done.

It is long past time to defund PBS/NPR and let them sink or swim on their own.
