Fonda Tells Santa Fe Crowd She Will Start Speaking Out Against Iraq War

By Jeremy Pawloski
Journal Northern Bureau

SANTA FE— Hundreds of Jane Fonda's admirers turned out at Garcia Street Books Saturday morning to hear the actress and part-time Pecos resident announce her plans to actively and publicly speak out against the U.S. war in Iraq.
More than 30 years ago, Fonda's stance against the Vietnam War was a lightning rod for controversy, especially when, in 1972, she visited North Vietnam as a guest of its communist government, whose army fought and killed U.S. soldiers.
"I have not taken a stand on a war since Vietnam," the fit and youthful-looking 67-year-old Fonda said on Saturday.
However, Fonda— who has been touring the country to promote her memoir, "My Life So Far"— said that she decided to end her silence on the war after a tour stop. Fonda said during a signing in one of the "so-called red states," there were "very friendly, very forgiving" veterans who asked why she isn't speaking out about the Iraq war.
Partly in response to those questions, Fonda said, "I've decided that I'm coming out."
Fonda's pending anti-war campaign will include using a bus that Fonda said will run on "vegetable oil" and will be used to tour the country with her daughter, along with veterans of the Iraq war and their families. She said the tour will stop in the Santa Fe area.
"I can't go into any detail except to say that it's going to be pretty exciting," she said.
Fonda spoke about a wide range of other topics before signing copies of her memoir.
Fonda voiced her continued support of women's "right to control their bodies and decide when and how many children they're going to have," to fervent applause.
While the majority of those in attendance praised Fonda for having the courage to speak her mind, others voiced displeasure about Fonda's visit to North Vietnam in 1972.
During that visit, Fonda posed for a photo while sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun. Fonda later apologized for the picture.
Santa Fe City Councilor David Pfeffer, a Vietnam veteran who was in attendance, said, "The shame is that she was never held accountable. That's the shame. She gave aid and comfort to the enemy, and she was never held to account."
But Tim Origer, vice president of the Santa Fe chapter of Veterans for Peace, who fought as a Marine during the Vietnam War's Tet offensive, said he attended to support Fonda.
"What she was trying to do was get people out of Vietnam," Origer said. "... We're trying to do the same thing today." Copyright 2005 Albuquerque Journal[/b]

I found it here too:

Quote:
One member of the crowd occasionally booed when Fonda talked about Vietnam.

But other members of the audience called for her to be forgiven and cheered loudly when Fonda announced her intentions to join the anti-Iraq war movement.

“I have not taken a stand on any war since Vietnam,” she said. “I carry a lot of baggage from that.”

Because so many people had asked her to join the protests, she said, she was “finally deciding to come out.”

Prompted by a question from the audience, Fonda said she should be ready by next March to board a bus, fueled by vegetable oil, that she plans to drive across the country calling for an end to military operations in Iraq.

Once again, like in every other war, there may be a small handful of disgruntled vets and she appeals to their wishes Rolling Eyes , or so she claims. Maybe she tried to enlist in the Marines too, right alongside Hitlery 'Robem' Clinton? Wink

Did she ever stop to think of asking what the overall vast majority of Veterans would like her do?

I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing her just wither away. Evil or Very Mad

I hope she's prepared for the backlash this is sure to bring out. There are still quite a few Viet Nam Vets who would love to stand in line to spit tobacco juice in her face, again.

She needs to be met by thousands of Veterans everywhere she goes and if nothing else, all of them stand and turn their back on her and remind the world of what a traitorous ***** she really is.

This is just too disgusting - kerry was a nightmare I'm still having -- but to have jane running around having her "excitement" again, playing her personal needs, sick little games with our national security AGAIN is just too much - sure, the anti-war/anti-U.S. folks would love to have her in their current movement -- with all their attempts to call the current situation Vietnam, what better than to have her voice and her face plastered all over the news-- Evil or Very Mad gosh I'm hoping the vets make this idea of hers backfire and shame her into oblivion.... Useful idiot - the damn useful idiot....

Vilifying one generation of soldiers wasn't enough for the little sleaze-bag?

She's going to go out and reclaim her "glory days?" She didn't have enough blood on her hands?

I'm so ________ mad I could spit nails! If she comes to a bookstore anywhere within a hundred miles of me, I will be there with a great big print of her sitting so cute on the goddamn guns that were used to shoot our airmen out of the sky. Evil or Very Mad

If i recall correctly, she was involved in threesomes, so let's hook her up with M Moore and Arianna Hufffington. With the three of these big mouths, they won't have time to bother the rest of us. Rolling Eyes Embarassed Mad

Vegetable oil? If I say "water balloon" can someone suggest a source for the "water"?

Hi back, *****!

My favorite poet saw this, and immediately sat down and wrote this:

Quote:
Hi Soldier

Hi soldier, let me sign my book,
And I’ll personalize it too.
Well pardon me, why that hard look?
That stare that goes clear through.
My word you’d think I’d done some wrong,
To merit such disfavor,
Oh come now, that’s all gone so long,
It’s future fame I savor.

What’s that thingie there upon your breast,
That rifle with the wreath?
And those wings upon your shriveled chest,
All those ribbons underneath?
Oh, I get it now, your one of them,
Crazy vet just filled with hate
Well, you can just forget it, Slim,
I’m the media’s hottest date.

Oh yeah, you peasant warrior twit,
You think your country cares,
That I once played the traitor bit?
Go stuff your dead-eyed stares.
Relax old-timer, you’re dismissed,
They’ve turned the cameras on,
Wouldn’t want the folks to see you pissed,
To see I’ve finally won.

Hold on Sarge! What do you mean,
This is for the fallen’s glory?
Wait! Stop! My scrawny butt’s too lean
For a book suppository.
I knew you grunts were crazy,
Just peasants without class
So now I’m upsy-daisy
A book and jump boot up my ass.

Let her rant all she wants and ignore her. This is just an effort to resurrect a career in the coffin.

The Security Moms won't listen.

The real Vets won't listen.

The Administration won't listen.

The Military won't listen.

Wall Street won't listen.

Her only audiance is made up of Moonbats and KoolAid drinkers.

We have already given her more attention in this post than she deserves.

Cool Cool Cool
