On Anderson Cooper, I just saw a picture of Cindy Sheehan standing next to a HUGE IVAW banner. IVAW is the offshoot of the VVAW. So now the same communist/marxist groups that helped John Kerry betray the USA during the Vietnam war are out using a grieving mom in order to recruit more communist sympathiers. I wonder just how many people know about the IVAW. Beatrice, if you could post a quick synopsis of the IVAW, I would be appreciative. I might try to put it together with the picture if I can find a way to screen save it.

Woman needs Prozac and serious counseling. I pity her.

Here's the full article on the emergence of IVAW referenced in this older forum thread...

ELECTION 2004
Kerry inspires Iraq vets to

New group modeled after candidate's

WASHINGTON – If John Kerry is elected president and doesn't immediately pull U.S. troops out of Iraq, he could be faced with an unusual situation – anti-war protests by a group modeled after the one he led during the Vietnam War.

A new organization, Iraq Veterans Against the War, is just that – an organization inspired by Kerry's own Vietnam Veterans Against the War legacy.

The group was actually conceived last week during Kerry's nominating convention in New York.

And the horror stories these vets are remarkably similar – though not as harrowing – as those told by Kerry in 1971 when he testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

"I didn't feel like I was a liberator," said Kelly Dougherty. "I felt like I was an oppressor. We burned a flatbed filled with produce in front of Iraqi people who were starving."

Mike Hoffman, who heads the new group, currently about 30 strong, says he's not sure the election of Kerry as president will bring about any change in Iraq war policy.

"My biggest fear is if he gets elected, it's not going to be all that much different," says the 24-year-old Pennsylvanian, who saw combat in Iraq with the 1st Marine Division.

Hoffman said: "I can see myself in Kerry's shoes in 1971."

Kelly Dougherty's father is also joining the fight against the war: "The day George Bush sent my daughter to war was the day I declared war against Bush," said Sean Dougherty, wearing a pin on his shirt with a picture of Bush and the slogan "9/11: Expose the Deception."

Not unlike Kerry's Vietnam Veterans Against the War, the Iraq peace group is being embraced by extremist organizations like the Communist Party USA.

"War veterans and their allies gathered in historic Faneuil Hall on the eve of the Democratic National Convention to demand the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and to call for the defeat of George W. Bush Nov. 2," reads the story in the latest issue of the party's People's Weekly World. "The meeting was sponsored by Veterans for Peace as part of its national convention. Hundreds of veterans of every war since World War II were in the crowd. A cheer went up when a group of Iraq war veterans filed onto the stage and announced they have formed Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), modeled on Vietnam Veterans Against the War that Kerry helped lead and that played a crucial role in forcing the U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam."

Kerry may have led that peace movement, but he has showed no indications of calling for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq if elected president.

Now some Americans are wondering if President Kerry might actually get a taste of his own protest medicine.

Yes, I noted the IVAW banner and Michael Hoffman, and he’s been interviewed on TV recently, but I don’t recall the show. Here is my old thread from 9/24/04 in which I discuss some of the players researched at that time:

“Warning: VVAW has “passed torch” to IVAW”

Since my old research, I have looked at their website from time to time and have watched their movement grow true to form based on the VVAW’s Vietnam playbook – kerry’s continuing legacy. Shall I say, watched helplessly, in a sense, as I don’t have the credentials to stand up to Hoffman and his mentors – only another soldier could stand up to him and only another parent can counter Cindy's circus. And I have been waiting for whoever that will be to come forward.... The VVAW/IVAW have been trying to be heard – they have been waiting and looking for a cindy – they are swinging a large apparatus into motion, and it is with anger and anguish that I watch this happening. (Seeing kerry & kennedy step up “in support of Cindy” did not help at all.... any tool of any size that they find useful is dangerous for this country).

The climate right now is good for the IVAW’s anti-war message and without an organized counterpart: Iraq/Afghanistan vets satisfied with their service and hopeful about our efforts – and families who have lost loved ones and are proud of their service -- the VVAW will once again become the “voice” of America... only the results would be much more disastrous ...

I am happy to see the following planned event posted at Free Republic – it gives me hope – especially the sign that indicates pride in our troops and their mission – I think this distinction needs to be yelled from the rooftops to expose the Left who have been pretending to support our military with their non sequitur of supporting the troops “but not the war" (the Iraq war being over, by the way) (their “support” for “the troops” is a vague, empty concept to provide them a veil of patriotism – seems to me that their “support” ends when the troops put on their uniforms....).

Thanks Beatrice. I found the article last night also. I think of all the Kerry info that concerned me the most, it was all the ties to the communist party supporters. They are truly unamerican. I wish someone would find that picture of her next to that huge IVAW banner and would call it something along the lines of "SUMMERSOLDIER convention". Might jog some memories of the VVAW and what a concocted scam the WINTERSOLDIER stuff was.

Who is supporting Cindy Sheehan? Well you can go to the CPUSA.org site that is communist party usa. Right at the top there is a folder for http://www.pww.org/ this is a publication for the Communist Party. Now we all know about the VVAW and the IVAW and their links to the Communist Party. It is like they say "Hold your friends close, hold your enemies closer".
