Poor CNN, has Murphy's Law going for them.....

Story related to the Cheney "X" issue that Daily Pundit has been covering

Quote:
November 22, 2005
CNN Employee On Tape: Cheney "X" Is "Freedom of Speech" - "Tell Bush And Cheney To Stop Lying"

<snip>
Millions from across the country telephoned CNN to alert the network about an accidental "X" over the Vice President's face, only to be told that the "X" was intentional against the present administration. CNN callers flooded the Internet and online communities with calls to boycott the network.

Likewise, the international marketing consulting firm Team Hollywood Inc., responsible for a database of over 11 million Americans, both Democrats and Republicans from across the country, was consumed with the calls. "The volume of calls to our company became an issue that could not be ignored," stated Joan Friedman of Team Hollywood. "We needed a statement on behalf of the Internet community callers and their newsworthy Blogs, so we made the call."

When the founders of the company, Preska Thomas and Kevin Finn, made contact with the network, to their surprise they were bullied and harassed in the same way by the Headline News desk. Callers were repeatedly told by CNN, "Tell the President and Vice-President Dick Cheney to stop lying." Team Hollywood's conversation with the newsdesk was recorded. When the tape is played back, amongst political statements being made by the network were the words that the "X" was intentional, as an act of free speech by CNN.

Daily Pundit has the tape of the call on it’s website...CNN idiot makes a fool out of himself

Quote:
UPDATE: 6:18 PM, PT 11/23/05: Call Authentic, CNN Fires Rep:

I just got off the phone with Laurie Goldberg, Senior Vice President for Public Relations with CNN. Her statement confirms the authenticity of the tape recording and reveals the actions CNN took after learning of the incident:
"A Turner switchboard operator was fired today after we were alerted to a conversation the operator had with a caller in which the operator lost his temper and expressed his personal views -- behavior that was totally inappropriate. His comments did not reflect the views of CNN. We are reaching out to the caller and expressing our deep regret to her and apologizing that she did not get the courtesy entitled to her. "

wonder if CNN will issue a public apology on their website....

This is so Orwellian and might I add why SVPT won the election for Bush. These crazy loons have really departed from mother earth.

Did the employee get fired for 1) making the statement or 2) getting caught and recorded while making the statement?

I am inclined to believe that the response the callers got from CNN was, in fact, the truth. The X was done deliberately. When the bloggers went nuts over this, CNN could no longer ignore addressing it. 'Fortunately' they took their 'explanation' a bit too far. Not only did they first say that it was a 'computer glitch', something that they had NO control over, but then they said that there was NO way that it could be done intentionally or be reproduced.

"On the air, CNN's director of technical operations explained to Kagan that at the end of Cheney's speech, the plan was to "have a CNN logo up on the screen and use that as the way of getting back from the speech back to you on camera and one of the many graphics we use here at CNN." ......

"But he explained it can't be reproduced "You can't make it happen on purpose."

The following morning, not only did FOX reproduce the X, they intentionally and purposefully covered the morning show anchor's face with it, repeatedly, at will.

IMO, this charade by CNN was d,one intentionally and whomever was answering the phone at the time was in on it. Callers into Fox were asking for the FCC to investigate.

Can you imagine the repercussions had FOX placed a big X over Murtha's face? There would be a call for an immediate investigation and the LL would be calling for heads to roll.

I want to say this.....now..I haven't worked for "news" orgs.

But, I did work for NASDAQ (times square).

They use "atomic clocks" from NORAD to sync all equpment..and timing for events.

BUT..there is a switcher....that anybody can hit...to pull up anything.

And during "live" events.....they give you a schedule ahead of time....and you can a) program the switcher to change at a given time..or "b) in the case of a speech or otherwise thats not prerecorded....some HUMAN..hits the switcher.

HAD...CNNN....said....somebody hit the switcher at the wrong time...I'd have said.."ok"....that can happen. Human error.

But, the way they tried to explain this...is simply insulting to anyone who knows anything about how this stuff works.

Further....the recorded phone call with a CNN employee suggestiing that this was intentional...is outrageous!!!

Crap happens in this business. And particuarly in live events...things can go wrong. But, I have NEVER ..in my life...seen such a thing! The fact that they tired to "explain" it...made it even worse!! It's ludicrous!!

ALL of their gear..is tied to the same "clock" source. (so timing is together). When you send a signal..via a switcher...that is non-exstiant..you get that X. Somebody...sent that...in the middle of Chenny's speech. If it was a programming error (those switches ARE programable)...that's an explanation. But, then..one would ask..why they would be programming a switch in the middle of a "live" event...where things are fluid?

They have clocks...that are more accurate than anything you have.
If it was a speech...given to them before hand..they'd have known it was not over yet.

And finally...if it was any of the above mistake...they'd have SAID so...ie..somebody screwed up.programming switch....or etc.
SOMEBODY...hit a switch.....more than once..that sent that X there.
There IS a way to explain that.

But, to have some tech come on and try and say that it's not possible to reproduce...is simply ludicrous and adds even more suspicion to this.

send them an email and give them a piece of your mind!

Thanks, dcn. It once again shows the broadcast MSM thinks the public are stupid if not morons. Just as when the bloggers called out Dan Blather on phony doecuments, there are people out in the real world who know what is going on and not just the insiders at the Clintonized News Network. Good call.
