I think this will energize the Republican base in NJ.
With the ghost of McGreevey hovering over the judicial bench,
most of NJ doesn't want to be seen as a leader in Gay rights.
Watch a few Sopranos episodes, this isn't going to fly in NJ.
I predict a Kean(R) victory by 5% or more.

I fervently hope you're right. But if I seriously and objectively back off and observe the mess (my opinion) that the voters have brought to NJ, I have serious doubts about sharing your optimism.
There's a buried issue in this decision that everyone needs to be aware of, and take very seriously. Massachusetts, when it legislated-from-the-bench gay marriage, had a law stating that it would not allow "couples" from other states to partake of Mass's liberal benelovance, thus making those "marriages" valid only in Massachusetts. NJ has no such law! (at this time, anyway). Thus if the NJ legislature bows to the court and allows gay marriages to stand (clearly the intent of the court), then it could have profound effect on every other state (and particularly those in close proximity), if it does nothing more. |

Its certainly difficult to defend NJ ( except for my wonderful location NW Sussex Co.) The politics are seriously corrupt. They jail politicians in one town
on sting operations only to have the next town politicians get caught in the same sting.
But NJ (or NUJOYZ ) as I saw on one license plate is nothing like Mass.
First if you ever look at a voting map by county or town, a tiny sliver of
Real Estate accounts for all of the Democratic voting power.
Most of the state votes Republican. From Trenton/Princeton through Newark and up to Jersey City
we are supposed to believe that all these Democratic votes are being cast.
Drive through these areas, if you dare, on an election day. You will not see
lines at voting places.
But I think NJ is thoughly embarrassed by its ex Gov and hopefully the
legitimate turnout will overcome the graveyard voters. |
