This appeared on another blog I visit. Don't have a source and you may have seen it before. Pretty eloquent, I think. BTW, I would extend "soldier" to Marine, airman and sailor.

Quote:
It is the soldier, not the preacher, who gives us freedom of religion. It’s the soldier, not the reporter, who gives us freedom of the press. It’s the soldier, not the poet who gives us freedom of speech. It's the soldier, not the campus organization, who gives us freedom to assemble. It’s the soldier, not the lawyer, who gives us the right to a fair trial. It’s the soldier, not the politician, who gives us the right to vote.

It’s the soldier who keeps us free.

those words delivered so memorably by another Marine -

Zell at the RNC convention

video link

'It is the Soldier' starts about 6 min into his speech, although the whole speech is worth another watch

Fort Campbell -

The Marines hold their chaplains in the highest regard ( see The Grunt Padre by Father Daniel Mode), but we've always borrowed our corpsmen, chaplains and airplanes from the United States Navy.

In exchange, we guard their main gates for them. It's been that way for a long time.
