LOL-

EXCELLENT OBAMA SATIRE
written by Gerard Baker from the London Times online 7/25/08:

He ventured forth to bring light to the world

The anointed one's pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a miracle in action - and a blessing to all his faithful followers

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: "Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?"

In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.

And so it was, in the fullness of time, before the harvest month of the appointed year, the Child ventured forth - for the first time - to bring the light unto all the world.

I THINK this post is "legal;" if not, I'm sure the moderators will keep me playing by the rules!

As important as the 2004 election was, I believe that this year's contest is more important to the well-being of this Republic. I've looked carefully at Obama's background (I am already familiar with McCain's), and he terrifies me.

Is this post acceptable? Anybody agree?

Well Sir, and as you might imagine, we're somewhat predjudiced here towards viewing 2004 as the America-saving center of the historical universe, but your observation is, by no means, indefensible.

Terrified...and bewildered...as this electorate almost gave us President Kerry. Confused

Terrifying is such a mild phrase in this context yet sadly I can think of no other word to describe it better. That someone could come as far as he has with such demonstrated ineptitude leads me to believe we've almost reached the "Bread and Circuses" condition in our republic.

The only saving grace is the possibility, if he is elected, the rest of the government can counter balance the damage he is sure to cause.

You know, in 2004 I thought Kerry was King of Bone-headed Remarks.
But 2008, Obama is making a real run at that title!
From Hinderaker at Powerline:
Quote:
Get This Man A Teleprompter!

Barack Obama is a lot like Sean Penn or George Clooney. If you give him a script, he can deliver it pretty well. But if he tries to talk without a script that has been written for him by others, he quickly reveals that he is poorly-informed if not downright ignorant. Today he delivered another classic, by claiming that if only we would all properly inflate our tires, we could save as much gasoline as "all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling."

The stunned silence with which the crowd greets this howler suggests that most Americans have a more practical understanding of energy consumption than Obama.

Just for fun, I did the math ......cont'd at Powerline

Being old and retired has its blessings.

Over the years, I've followed John McCain's career and think I know him fairly well. I've read many books of/by him and remain impressed.

Recently, our daughter visited us, and she got off the plane carrying one of Obama's books. She proudly announced that she had paid full price for it at the LAX gift shop! My wife was duly concerned.

Our daughter left the book with us and insisted we read it. Wanting to be fair, and also wanting to figure out where we went wrong in raising such a beautiful woman, we both read Dreams From My Father. I even went out and purchased The Audacity of Hope (at a huge discount) and read it as well.

My impression? Barack O'Bama is a gifted writer and could probably sell me something if the item was inexpensive and his sales presentation was kept short. But he wants to be President and has been campaigning forever. "Empty suit" doesn't even begin to describe his shortcomings. If Barack were white instead of black, he would be selling life insurance today instead of running for the highest office in the land.

That last comment is not racist. My late father sold life insurance for a time, as did Barack's grandfather. That same daughter who gave us Barack's book married a black man, and he's my favorite son-in-law. I'm slowly learning of the prejudices suffered almost daily by blacks in America. But none of this makes Barack Obama qualified to be Commander in Chief.

This rant is finished. I must go out and inflate my tires.

1991932, that you, somehow, felt a need to make that statement after such a poignant and thoughtful post is discomforting and unsettling.

Yes, Obama is a black American. Perhaps for that very fact alone, I celebrate his candidacy as yet another indicy of the collective American Will to eliminate racism within our society and to uphold that CONSTITUTIONAL COMMITMENT even under threat to our very lives. Is their another country or population on this PLANET with a more commendable record in that regard? Yet, ironically and pathetically, THIS candidate, given the opportunity, will attempt to further degrade, by an order of magnitude, the very socio-economic-religious bedrock upon which this CONSTITUTIONAL COMMITMENT stands...and for WHAT? Afro-centric "LIBERATION THEOLOGY" and "SOCIALISM", both of which intent on ELIMINATING our Judeo-Christian principles, the very "DNA" of our society, from the equation.

Would it be that we have progressed beyond the point that his race is even an issue, but that is apparently not to be...not this time around. There's just too much political hay to be reaped by those who trade in race-baiting to the detriment of a genuine education on just WHO Obama is and WHAT he represents.

Obama is a died-in-the-wool SOCIALIST and "LIBERATION THEOLOGIST", and the American voter had best awaken from the self-indulgent euphoria they are evidently wallowing in before they pull that lever in November.

Oh, yes. He's black too.

Welcome larrywb,
Although I might be a little prejudiced toward thinking 2004 was very important, the current election is also important.
Obama's background leads me to worrying.
1) with less than a half year experience (I think the quoted figure is 146 days), he wants to be POTUS. President is not an entry level position.
2) There are federal laws that prohibit anyone with drugs in their past (cocaine comes to mind) from ever being entrusted to be in the nuclear chain of command. This basically says that by law he is disqualified from making nuclear decisions. Does that mean he is unqualified to be President?
3) He is just too socialist for my liking.

Mr. Obama has thrown race into this campaign on more than one occasion, and twice in the last week. If he wants to play that game then he better get ready for the well deserved title of race baiter.

I'm waiting to see if the soon to be released book by Jeremiah Wright will further damage Obama's efforts to socialize my country.
