Getting a Researcher Identification Card
When you come to a National Archives and Records Administration facility to look at records, you will usually be issued a researcher identification card.

You do not need a researcher identification card:
when you are using only National Archives microfilm publications at the National Archives Building, Washington, D.C., or at regional records services facilities with separate microfilm research areas.

when you are not doing research on the same day as your visit.

when you are not at a National Archives facility.

when there are no records or other materials on your topic in the National Archives or when you are better served by visiting your local library or another institution.

when you are only using secondary or library resources at a Presidential Library or Regional Records Service Facility.
To obtain a researcher identification card, an applicant must
show official identification that includes a photograph. A driver's license, passport, school, and employment identification are among the acceptable IDs.

show proof of address. In cases where the address on the photo ID is no longer correct, proof of address from another official source must be provided, such as a voter registration card or motor vehicle registration.

complete a short form giving full name, permanent address, telephone number, and a brief description of the proposed research topic.
Your researcher identification card will be valid for one year.
It must be presented during each research visit.
If you forget or lose your card, talk to the staff when you arrive.
Procedures for replacing your card vary slightly at different facilities.

He exposed a lot of fakes by getting their records thru FOI requests.

FOI requests are only valid for certain information, even for Professional Researchers. Medical Records are classified as Confidential. The only way that anyone is going to see Kerry's medical records is if he authorizes it.

All the more reason to get the media to keep asking

"Mr Kerry, why don't you just put this whole thing to rest and sign the form 180?

I have been emailing every major news agency asking them politely to please include that in their "talking points" with John Kerry.

Concerned_Voter is correct. I can tell you from personal experience it is difficult to obtain or view records of military personnel.

I had to fill out the 180 when wanting to view my Uncles military records and he was deceased. He had passed away in 1985 and I applied in April 1987 and I didn't hear back until July 1987.

This is the pertinent paragraph from the Release of Information form:

"Under provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974, we must have the written consent of the individual whose records are involved before considering your request. If tthe individual is am inor dependent of a veteran, the parent or legal guardian must sign the release. If the person is mentally incompetent, the legal guardian must sign the release. (The legal guardian representative or guardian should furnish a copy of the court appointment.) Although the Privacy Act does not apply to the records of deceased individuals, Department of Defense instructions indicate that we must have the written consent of the next of kin if the individual is deceased. For purposes of the release authorization the next of kin is defined as any of the following: unremarried widow or widower, son, daughter, father, mother, brother or sister."

I apparently didn't word my request right and the information I was able to view was very limited, there was not much in the file so some day I will have to re-submit and see if I can come up with more info. I am really restricted for the next of kin as there is only my Aunt and my dad.

Anyway, like it has been said before, Mr. Kerry just needs to sign the 180 and this whole thing could be cleared up and of course he needs to release his journal.

Clinton's White House was caught with 900 FBI files, but unfortunately the "rotten" Ken Starr (my hero) had to pick and choose what to prosecute there was so much to chose from. Robert Manzanares and others were even caught reading them.

Clinton's White House also leaked Linda Tripp's personal files from the DoD.

Too bad that the Bush White House is so honest. But I am glad that they are.
