Mr. Jones. As I stated above, I have sent a query to the Dept. of Defense. They should be able to provide figures on how many people servied in Viet Nam, etc. If they provide me with the information, I will post it here. |

Thanks! I would like to know if the stories of disproportionate representation in the military - via the draft, especially - by minorities (especially African-Americans) are true. And finally academicanarchist, if you think the cover of Kerry's book is about disagreeing with the politics of Vietnam, why did he choose one of the most reprinted photos in the history of the world from WWII?
It's my belief that he was disrespecting veterans in general. I have stated in the military posts that maybe he'll do a Doughboy parody next. I wouldn't expect you to understand how disrespectful it is. But I can assure you that it is indeed repulsive to any Marine or Sailor who knows the history of his service and the story of the men who died on Iwo Jima.
My father fought in those islands and many of his friends died there. That photograph (yes, it was staged, so what?) represents something, much like the Flag which is turned upside down on his book. It represents far more than the image itself. It represents the courage of men who answered their nation's call and threw themselves in harm's way for the benefit of the people of this nation, much the same way the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle, Globe and Anchor do.
You know I'm right Devildogs, Semper Fi! |

I have the slightest idea as to why he chose that photograph, other than perhaps its historic value. My father also served in the Pacific Theatre from 1941-1945, and people he knew died. If you feel offended by Kerry's use of that photograph, why don't you address it directly to him? |

The facts do not support your statement. I'm going to have to ask you to back up that statement. I'm afraid you have bought into one of the more prevalent myths about Vietnam. |
Just curious.
Do you also buy the one about the war being fought mainly by 18 year old draftees? _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Nope. Since we have started this discussion, I am now very curious to know more about who fought in the war, in terms of age, ethnic background, etc. |

Good!
Get ready for some surprises.
Just for your information, 101 eighteen yr old draftees died in the war.
7 of them were black. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Thanks for the link ! I showed it to my husband. If I repeated what he said, I'd be banned from the board ! It sickens me that my grandson, who is in Fallujah,is fighting for freedom for the Kerry's and A-- kissers, who would blindly elect him. I didn't join this group because of politics.
I'm here (and other places) because I believe the turncoat Kerry should be tried for TREASON. |

It wasn't him that chose it and these *honest* people have had that pointed out to them a number of times. |

His name is above the photo. It's his book. He's responsible. End of story. Thatisall .... _________________ Walt Jones (USMC, '65 - '69) It says much about the person who defends a man with no honor. |

What's the matter, craig? Kerry - I mean cat got your tongue? Your DNC talking points don't deal with this situation very well, do they? Maybe you can find another article to cut and paste that will help you out a little. BTW, did you know Zell Miller was in the Corps? What do you want to bet he's never seen Kerry's garbage on his book cover (and in it, for that matter)?
He will. Thatis all .... _________________ Walt Jones (USMC, '65 - '69) It says much about the person who defends a man with no honor. |

Greetings Walt
Sister of a Marine here.
His unit VMA-242 ['62-'64]
3 from his unit, are remembered on The Wall.
I told him about Kerry's bookcover - the look on his face said it all.
Will forward your post "Calling All Marines" to his unit's email list.

Welcome aboard, Kate! As far as I'm concerned, you're welcome in the Vets Only forum, where there's less Kerry hack noise, but if you like to do battle - and what "honorary" Marine doesn't - this is the place. I was incountry from '66 - '68, and I never saw nor heard of Marines treating civilians the way Kerry said we did. Semper Fi! I would urge everyone to invest a few dollars in the book, "Stolen Valor." That, and the 36 page "Testimony"at C-SPAN.org before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by Sen.John Kerry, exposes him for the lying S.O.B. he really is.
Today,no yesterday,( just noticed the clock.) Kerry lied again. He was on a roll ... Bush bashing,as usual. This time over rising gas prices. The Senator, forgot HE HAD VOTED 10 TIMES when Willie" was president to RAISE GAS PRICES! |

Where is that guy who's trying to defend a man with no honor? Oh, that's right he said he would leave if Kerry was active in the VVAW and marched under a VC flag. 'Bye Craig!
