I personally think that McCain spoke a little too quick by assuming the Swift Vets were supported by the same folks that hit on him during his last campaign for the nomination. The Swift Vets should attempt to brief him on their accusations and get him to at least make a neutral statement. If he were to do so, MSM would HAVE to investigate. The Dems are hiding behind "even John McCain thinks this is a dirty trick"

John is a vet who didn't bury the hatchet with Kerry until after many years. I gotta believe that hatchet would come back out if he were to be convinced that Kerry had been misleading the nation all along.

Have the Swift Vets attempted to meet with McCain???? Let's not attack him, let's get him on board.

I'd be inclined to give him a chance to read the book.

Then, if he still says this is a case of dirty politics, we'll know who is REALLY playing them.

After the way betrayed POW/MIA families as a member of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, I don't trust him. (This was the committee led by John Kerry, the one that concluded with the statement that the government of Vietnam was cooperating fully with all of efforts at resolution efforts despite reams of evidence to the contrary.)

As it stands, McCain's accusations about this ad don't mean much to vets except one more slap in face, and it's lost its impact in the face of the wild success of O'Neill's book.

John McCain must have suffered tremendously, during his time as a POW, and one can easily understand his wanting to get past that painful period--to mend fences, and go on with life.

Despite wanting to get past that pain, if Senator McCain honestly considers the thousands of fellow Veterans that have been harmed, both physically and psychologically by JFK, and VVAW lies, he would at least take a non-jaundiced view of those that served alongside Senator Kerry, and have different recollections of the events in question.

Kerry insists on running on his Vietnam War Record, because his Senate Record is beyond anti-military, and is down-right anti-national security. His post-Vietnam record with the VVAW is a nightmare of slanderous lies, and even his vaunted Vietnam epic is fraught with questionable activities.

And Senator Kerry has not learned from the past. His recent secret plan to get us out of Iraq, is just what our enemy wants to hear. Negotiate with France, pull our troops out!! Sounds like "Peace with Honor", and deja-vu all over again! Earth to Kerry, it didn't, and doesn't work!

No honest person can deny that Senator Kerry as Commander in Chief, is at the very least a national securtiy question-mark, and at worst a disaster in the making.

Senator McCain having worked so closely with Senator Kerry, understandedly considers him a friend, but friends do not let friends drink and drive--nor should they let them profit and lie.

At this crucial point in history, we need to protect our Nation, and the brave Soldiers that we put in harms way.

McCain stepped into it, and has stepped back out of it, my view is let him stay out. As long as he does not comment on the issue which is more personal to him than ANY of us can understand, I think we just let McCain be. (Personal being defined as...none of us can fathom truly what he feels after his imprisonment)

He had 5 years to think about everything and anything, I dare say we allow him to speak out, once, and (in what I believe) even he thinks was a miss-step.

The Veteran that needs to respond is Kerry. Keep the focus. Kerry needs to respond, and he need to address the American people directly, not through campaign surrogates.
KEEP THE FOCUS

McCain and Kerry have become friends, having "buried the hatchet," according to many sources. While it would be great to have him on board, I doubt it will happen and I seriously doubt it is all that necessary.

If he were to come on board, he too would now be considered "just another hired gun," but supported and honored for their service, as was just explained by a Democratic Strategist on Chris Wallace. Of course, she won't say who hired them, LOL.

Although I have respect for John McCain as a Vietnam Veteran, and a POW, I do not trust him any further than I can pick up my old truck and throw it.

Let him come over on his own terms. I doubt if he will do that, even if he reads the book.

War Woof!

I hope everyone had the opportunity to read a post titled, " A letter to John McCain " which appeared on this board with a date of Aug. 9th. It was written by Brent F. Moody ( azvet61, an Arizona constituent of Sen. McCain.) The letter captures the depth and hurt felt by so many over McCain`s intemperate and unfair attack on the swiftvets. His failure to apologize after learning all the facts is disappointing.

You would have to think that anyone who could "bury the hatchet" with Kerry after the Hanoi Hilton, would be able to give the SBVT a chance to explain themselves before condemning them. How could he just assume that over 250 Kerry contemporaries would be lying, particularly after putting their reputations and fortunes on the line with signed and sworn affidavits?

I wrote a letter to him asking exactly that.
