I have read that where John Kerry's boat was about 55 miles from the Cambodia during Christmas Eve of 1968, but no one ever mentions the time element. How fast and how far can a swiftboad travel going upstream? (Just in case John was just lost) Are there any large villages or cities along the Mekong River which John Kerry and his crew would have to notice before crossing the border into Cambodia?
Has any of his band of bothers confirm his entering into Cambodia? Wink

The river had big cement blocks in it and was patrolled and guarded by boats to prevent entrance into Cambodia. If anyone had been caught going into Cambodia they would have been court marshalled because it would have caused world wide outrage.

Besides, President Nixon was not President then and the speech saying there was no one in Cambodia had not been given yet.

Maybe one of the Navy guys here could give you an answer.I am no expert but would Imagine it would take some time.Especially depending on what the navigational concerns of the river were.Like depth and obstructions

I believe that they do 20 Knots. One OinC wrote something about 3 1/2 hours I believe.

It would have been ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE for any body to 'ACCIDENTLY' or 'UNINTENTIONALLY' wander into Cambodian waters by December 1969.

The only waterway access was HEAVILY GUARDED and only very light draft craft could pass through a narrow gap in the fences and then only at high tide.

If John Kerry is now going to claim, as Brinkley did in a London news source recently, that he was in Cambodia three or 4 times dropping off Special Operations soldiers, his campaign is over. Finished. Sunk. Without a trace.
