The more I read this book, the madder I get. Congratulations on a fine piece of work. I now see where MoveOn.org is coming out with an ad showing you guys having written glowing reports on the performance of John Kerry. Correct me if I am wrong, but it is very plausible to me that, as ones' military records are not available to the whole world unless authorized by the individual involved, you guys had not idea what was in those records until Kerry made them public and as a result discovered the lies that had you known them before hand, you probably would not have written those glowing reports.

The reason this is plausible to me, is because I got caught in a similiar situation where I wrote up a guy for promotion only to discover many years later, I should not have.

Anyhow, I hope you guys hold John Kerry's feet to the fire. I'm sending a few bucks for the cause.

jccooper,

In addition, MoveOn is counting on civilian ignorance on how a FITREP is written. When I was in the USAF, they rescaled the EPR (enlisted proficiency report) to a five point scale. Anything less than a five on each category was a "ding'. Anything more than that was a black mark on your record.

In Vietnam with FITREP inflation and the "up or out" system for officers, this was even worse (and I believe it is explained elsewhere in this site). Basically on those marks that are most important for promotion, LT (jg) Kerry got at best average marks....enough to eventually qualify him as a staff officer maybe and just enough to make the Navy a career if he chose, but not enough for true command potential. At least that is my read based on my understanding of Vietnam FITREPS and my own experience with EPRs (as an enlisted man). The comments on early promotion boards and such mean much more IMX and IMHO.

Excellent analysis of John Kerry's fitreps here:

(the ones that aren't missing, that is)

I saw him on FOX just now. And, I'm a bit ahead in years. When I was in the USAF, 56th Air Commando Wing, they were called APRs (Airmen Performance Reports)

I don't know how this is going to work out but man oh man we need to see to it that the whole world knows what a sorry SOB John Kerry is.

Send money to these guys. Heck a buck here, a buck there sure worked for that Howard Dean fellow.

jccooper,

Already done. I have a check in the mail to the SBVT. When I can afford it, I will probably send another.
