I love it!!! These guys are getting desperate (talk about a route...next thing you know Kerry will be calling in the UN!!!) and it can only work in our favor. I think now's the time for O'neill and his REAL band of brothers to file suit against Kerry for bismirching their good names. But then again, it would probably take away from the current and wildly successful Swifty campaign. Go Swifties!!!

This is classical political misdirection.

When the candidate is in a negative spotlight, do anything to get the light off of him and onto a different topic. It really doesn't matter if they have a case or not, the idea here is to stop the press talking about Kerry's past and have them focus on something else.

In this case, the PACs.

Smooth move. Will it work?

This is simply a disingenuous PR ploy. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic .

Having recently watched the '71 debate between the two Johns.....I 've never seen a real-life case of poetic justice like we are witnessing now.

Amazing! Who is the total idiot running the kerry campaign's treatment of this issue? What a total moron!

Said earlier in this thread about desperation: absolutely and pathetic response as well.

This is the kind of thing that backfires on people who make too big a deal out of something many people have yet to grasp.

Its just like the old line: if you tell a lie you will tell so much to support that lie that it will dwarf the lie itself.

If we're lucky, they'll file some more complaints and threaten some law suits, etc.

Keeps the whole thing in the public eye. Half the electorate still don't know anything about this and they need to. Very Happy

Threatening the publisher just doubled whatever number of books would have been sold. Very Happy

It is desperate and dangerous on his part. He needs to hope his campaign has very clean hands.

The worst thing that can happen to Kerry on this (although it is very unlikely) is for the FEC to take immediate action on this -- and rule there is not sufficient evidence of a violation.

I hope that SBVT publicly calls for an immediate ruling by the FEC on this.

Comes out and say, "We have clean hands. We welcome the FECs examination -- so long as it is immediate. For the FEC to delay action will be to deny us justice."

Kerry takes legal action against Vietnam critics

FORT MYERS, United States (AFP) - Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry (news - web sites)'s campaign formally alleged that a group attacking his Vietnam war record had illegal ties to US President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s reelection bid.

In a statement released to reporters, Kerry's campaign announced it had "filed a legal complaint against Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) before the Federal Election Commission (news - web sites) (FEC) for violating the law with inaccurate ads that are illegally coordinated with the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign."

The move by the Kerry campaign came shortly after the Swift Boat group released a second ad attacking the Democratic presidential candidate, who was wounded three times while serving on a Swift Boat in Vietnam and decorated twice for valor.

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have accused Kerry of lying about one of the wounds he suffered and of embellishing his acts of heroism during his four months in Vietnam, charges strongly rejected by the senator from Massachusetts.

Kerry on Thursday accused the Bush administration of using the Swift Boat veterans as a front group to do the "dirty work" of attacking his Vietnam War record.

The New York Times on Friday reported that there is a "web of connections" between the Swift Boat group and the "Bush family, high-profile Texas political figures and President Bush (news - web sites)'s chief political aide, Karl Rove."

Fox just said that 60 million had been spent by Dem 527 vs 1 million by
SwiftVets.

Hey, hows that for a return on your money!

donate $25 and you get about $1500 worth of bang for your buck. ( 60 X $25 )

Such a Deal !!

I could find a "web of connections" from any Entity A to any other Entity B, particularly within the same state ... maybe even from Kerry to a guy who's had a real job ... big whoop.
