I agree, you don't ever turn your back on a rattlesnake until you are sure he is dead.

Kerry will never resign and the election will still be close. Dont kid yourselves about this. The "Anybody but Bush" crowd is alive and well. The last 3 weeks before the election will be the most telling as to why people turn out and what they are voting for. We have a long way to go and I afraid that this story will be "old news" by then. It will all come down to VOTER TURN-OUT. What we can hope the SwiftVets do is to capture some undecided voters to the Bush side and to sour the Dems into a low turn-out.

Its still going to be a very close race. But, we do still have the GOP convention to go through. Maybe Bush can get a boost?

Kerry used the Navy to get himself some medals so he would have credibilty that would vault him to the top of the anti-war movement, a great launching pad for the political career he was planning.

To do that, he used the Navy and the soldiers he was serving with while he was stationed in Vietnam.

Once he returned to the States, he used these veterans again, this time painting them as war criminals and dysfunctional misfits in order to indict the military and America's policy in Vietnam as criminal.

He needed these vets only as proxies to slander in making himself look courageous and noble in exposing the Big Lie of the Vietnam War.

Once he was done with them, he discarded them, and in every political campaign he faced he showed off his medals and boasted about his war service. And he kept winning.

Gearing up to run for President, he relentlessly pursued the men who served on his boat in Vietnam for their support, and won over all of them save one: Steve Gardner.

Confident he was ready, Kerry accepted his party's nomination, and began marching towards his lifelong dream of holding America's most powerful office................................

only at this point the Vietnam Vets that Kerry had used and slandered and discarded decided they had had enough and there was NO WAY they were gonna let this medal hogging faker become the Commander In Chief during a time of crisis such as the War on Terror, when he had not the character or courage for such an office.

These veterans, don't they understand? They were only BIT PLAYERS, small fry, one-shot extras in the important life of President to be John Kerry! He has NO FURTHER USE FOR THEM! HOW DARE THEY NOT GO AWAY! Can't they see their overall purpose in the scheme of things was to be slandered by him so he could launch a political career?

And now these pathetic red state beer drinking hicks want to force the world to give them a bigger role than is their due? Kerry's campaign is adamnt: these guys already played their bit part. Now it's time for them to fade away and never surface again while Kerry body-surfs to the White House on a wave of adulation and admiration for being so brave in Vietnam!

I LOVE IT! KERRY'S MANIFEST DESTINY IS CHANGING BEFORE OUR EYES!

From the White House to the Out House!

Hope you're wrong, otherwise the SBVT ads and book launch were premature.

I can't envisage how Kerry can recover from this other than by wearing us out.

However, though a conservative, I'm not a big fan of Dubya since he's a "new world order" big-government RINO. So in that regard, I agree that this is no time to become complacent. If Kerry's hurt too badly but stays in the race, lot's of folks like me might be relieved not to "have to" vote for Dubya.

Bill Clinton has been remarkably silent on this....as are the rest of the high profile Dems.....Jackson, Sharpton, Hillary, Gore, Daschle.

Will he drop out of the campaign? Not likely. Will he accuse other people for his problems? You bet!

One thing for sure, after the election he will be crying that the SBVT stole the election from him.

Too bad!

oh no ,,,, here we go again ,,the democrats will say that bush stole another election

Look if the Bush-Kerry race is a 20-30 point spread popular or electoral then the Dems can't say he stole it.

And I have a great opening line if Kerry makes it to the debates:

"Mr. Kerry can you confirm or deny you were in Cambodia?"

Second verse --

"Under pressure I signed a Form 180. Mr. Kerry you have not signed a Form 180, why?"

Guys,

Yeah that's the ticket. Claim that one little grassroots (which we are and we can prove it to the FEC) 527 with perhaps a million to spend (at best) "stole" the election......

Riiiiiiight......

Well, the serial liar M. Moore thought he could steal the election with one little "movie" -- and he tried.

It's not over yet -- and if he melts down too soon then they put Edwards (whining about "look what they did to John") or Hilary in there.

It's August, folks. The cutoff deadline for 527 organization advertisements, as I understand it, is coming up very soon, in a matter of weeks, I think.

The Dems will hope that when the SwiftVets can't buy time for their ads anymore, this will all go away.

It probably will die down in the broad national perception between mid-September and the election. A lot will depend on how many people's opinions have been affected now, while these are front-page issues. And surely even after the ads can't be run any longer, at some level the controversy over Kerry's military record and post-service antiwar activism will continue all through election day.

The Dems will also hope that Dubya makes some huge misstep in the debates, or that some foreign event will explode that will somehow work in their favor.

But it's just not realistic to hope that Kerry will quit or be forced off the ticket. Not gonna happen. Not even George McGovern or Walter Mondale conceded defeat until the polls closed.

Still, that's no reason to stop what the SwiftVets and their supporters are doing now -- that's just all the more reason to do it better, harder, and louder.

Beldar,

I am not a lawyer so I don't know the specifics (but I do know the normal deadline is 2 Sep), but I seem to recall that O'Neill got some sort of exemption when he filed the original paperwork. {Move On has the same exemption IIRC}

So if the Dems are counting on SBVFT going off the air after 2 Sep, they may be in for a rather rude suprise.

I hope that's right. Laughing

Update: Spent 20 minutes cruising through the Code of Federal Regulations, but have declared MEGO (mine eyes glazeth over). My uncertain impression is that if a 527 organization isn't incorporated and isn't recommending a specific candidate by name, advertisements even within 60 days of an election are okay. But I have a low degree of confidence in even that uncertain impression.

Anyway, I'll trust that the lawyers who actually live and breathe this stuff -- of which group I'm definitely, and gratefully, not a member -- will have given the SwiftVet leadership good advice on how long they can continue to run ads.

To me, it looks like the release of the ads, book & media engagement are right on. They are a call to arms - to the nation, to soldiers past & present, to step out and make their presence known & their voices heard --preferably at all of JK's planned events .. (and 9/12 rally) It gives the vets a little bit of time to prepare for this and swing into action, but I think they can move pretty fast when their heart is in it!

That's a factor in this mission of the SBVFT that Kerry CANNOT control!! (aside from John O'Neill himself & the Swiftees...) And MAYBE that's why on his website right now he says he has 1 million veterans across the country rallying vets to his side. 1 million !! ....(Hastily calling vets and begging them for support). He will probably be afraid of townhall meetings now.... how can he be CiC if he is condemned by US soldiers??

JK knows the SBVFT are coming for him, but he isn't so sure about the rest of the vets .... herein lies his fear..... I'm waiting for our soldiers to come out in large numbers and condemn HIM for what he did to them and to this nation. (In addition to justice for JK, it will also be a lesson to the MSM that maybe they need to do a little research before opening their mouths.) So, anyway, I feel pretty good about the plan I'm seeing unfolding right now!
