As an independent voter, I am both saddened and sickened by the extreme tactics on display here (and, to be totally fair, by the left-wingers elsewhere) that only seek to serve private agendas and that contribute mightily to the ever-growing polarization of this nation. Assertions, assumptions, innuendos, allegations, blah blah blah.....enough already!

Frankly, I don't believe that Sen. Kerry has been or is lying about his service in Vietnam any more than I do many of the assertions that were made against President Bush in "Fahrenheit 911". If there were any real substance to these allegations, there would be a far greater outcry than there is. In fact, until there is any hard evidence, I simply don't care. However, what I DO care about is.....the economy, jobs, protecting America's security AND freedoms, health care, education....all the things that are relavent and important to everyday people out there trying to do the best for themselves and their families. So go ahead and argue whether there was or wasn't enemy fire on Kerry's boat or Bush was Edited- Unproven allegations are not welcome....all it does is deflect attention from the real issues facing this country that matter to middle-of-the-road and working-class Americans like me. It simply serves to further polarize this great nation of ours that, in the aftermath of horrible tragedy, seemed so close to being truly united after the events of 911. Seems like a thousand years ago now.

Warning by Moderator: You are welcome to praise or condemn Kerry as much as you want, however we are not here to discuss the economy, jobs, or George Bush. We are saying Kerry is unfit to serve as Commander-in Chief in time of war and your subject matter needs to reflect that theme.

Fairplay, two questions....

1. Have you read Unfit for Command?
2. Have you seen the SBVT ad that was released yesterday?

If the answer to #2 is yes, what part do you not believe? These are Kerry's own words.

Some things are more important than an individual's needs -- some things are bigger than that. This is.

Fairplay, obviously you have not read the [book] or you would be compelled, like many of us, to search for answers.

Why does all of this have so much significance?

It calls into question Kerry’s character which is as vital as where he stands on the issues.

So far he has been caught in at least two serious outright lies (embellishments if you're on the left).

All this would be settled if Kerry would release his records by signing a form 180.

I find the comparisan offensive. The truth isn't extreme. This isn't conspiracy nutcase stuff like Moore puts out.

Read the book.

This post is straight up DNC talking points.

Telling the truth is not extremist. We were "united' for all of three weeks before leftists and liverals started blaming the USA for being attacked. Liveral opposed the Afghanistan war, predicting "quagmire" and massive civilian casualties and starvation because of our taking it to the Taliban.

And do you think that you are going to fix this with some sort

of pleading for tolerance speach? Doubt it.

Read the book then comment on something pertenent to
the situation.

or

Go to the Dem. boards, they are more interested in the sensitive
approach than I am.

Fairplay, like the others have said, its about character and integrity. I realize that we did have a president from 1993 to 2000 who did not have either, but that does not justify having another.

See the swiftvet ads.

Read the book.

Believe in character and integrity.

Then vote your conscience.

And thanks for being calm and courteous with your objections. You must not be from DU.

There is only one truth. Either the Swift vets are right, or their wrong. Kerry could clear it up in a heartbeat, if he released his full military record, like the President had to do.

Sir, I respect your views and, what ought to be front and center, are the pressing issues of the day. However, I believe these Veterans who are still carrying the stigma of being called war criminals have a right to have their names cleared once and for all.

Unfortunately many of the Viet Nam Veterans have already gone to their graves carrying that label.

As I see it, what John Kerry is doing now is to ignore the Truth and once again go after the messengers, the Viet Nam Veterans. They've swallowed these accusations for 35 years. John Kerry put the 'criminal' label on them and John Kerry is the only one who can take it away.

THE TRUTH NEEDS TO BE TOLD.

I would have never thought he would lie about it either. But once I looked into it, I changed my mind. He is either a compulsive or pathological Liar. Hell, you got his account and there were 4 Christmas's in 1968. Something that was Seared and I mean SEARED in his mind was a misquote. Come on. He has been caught in at least 3-4 lies and you are willing to accept it. But my suggestion would be like many others over my post. Get the book and decide for yourself. But dont let him play you as a fool. He (Kerry) thinks that you are gullible enough to give him a pass on these lies. He needs to be held accountable in my opinion.

It's relevant for many reasons; the most important because John Kerry made Vietnam and his service a cornerstone of his qualifications to be President, not these Swift Vets. Your problem should be with Kerry, who tried to deflect his part time Senate record with one sentence in his convention speech. I hope your also not of the opinion that his Senate record would be off limits as well, one thing being that he lied about being in Cambodia to pass legislation on the Senate floor and slander Ronald Reagan.
