I’m having great difficulty making the allegations of Swift Vets plausible. Let’s use the action of 13 March ’69. They make the claim that things didn’t go down as Kerry wrote in his After Action Report. Are we to be lead to believe that after reading Kerry’s alleged embellished report, that no senior officers would have spoken to any other boat crews to say, Wow you guys had quite a day! Are we to believe that Thurlow didn’t submit a report after going to the aid of a boat destroyed by a mine, jumping aboard that boat that had multiple casualties. We’re to believe that only one boat of five submits an After Action Report. Are we to believe that after receiving three recommendations for Bronze Stars that no Senior Officers spoke to other boat crews and discredited Kerry’s After Action Report. Are we to also believe that after such a mission there was no debriefing, no concern for intel on VC positions, activity, build up, only a single After Action report.
One would certainly think that if there was a debriefing, and if things went as Swift Vets allege, wouldn’t eyebrows have gone up after reading Kerry’s After Action Report? One of the Swift’s recollection was that after the mine explosion they laid down suppression fire toward both banks. Suppression to fire to what if they weren’t receiving fire?
So help me make sense of this.

I believe your questions will be answered if you'll just do a little research here.

The other men involved were tired. Kerry was willing to write the after action report and they would rather sleep than do paperwork. Makes perfect sense to me.

Suppression fire was done "in case", not because they got fire. Mine exploded, they started shooting in case it was an ambush. When they realized they weren't being fired upon, they quit shooting and got on about the business of getting men out of the water and rescuing the 3 boat.

An hour and a half of sitting in one spot getting the boat and crew rescued and there wasn't a bullet hole in any of the boats and no one was wounded... What does that tell you about enemy fire?

mrhct,

Have you read Unfit for Command? Everything is laid out in the book in a very orderly, easy to follow format.

Half the book is devoted to Kerry's observed actions and behavior in Vietnam and the other half deals with his anti-war action, coordinating with the enemy in Paris, etc.
