CNN just played a tape on which John O'Neill tells President Nixon that he has been in Cambodia with his Swift boat. Kerry supporters now call O'Neill a liar for saying in interviews he never went to Cambodia.

I guess the question is What does in Cambodia mean?

Does it mean just over the imaginary borderline in the middle of the river dividing Cambodia and Vietnam

Or

On Cambodian soil.

Kerry said he transported guns and CIA agents from Vietnam to Cambodian soil. In his diary he wrote he had never been in Cambodia.

The lie here is clear.

I hope John O'Neill can clear this thing up. We need the Swift boat vets to concentrate on making sure Kerry never gets elected.

GO VETS!

John was just on Hannity, and cleared it up - wish I could remember the exact words now - maybe someone else will be able to....

Basically, words taken out of context --he did say he was in Cambodia, then the very next words were about patrolling in a creek 15 miles from cambodia, which of course they didnt play on the tape

also, John explained that these were two DIFFERENT areas being discussed ... Kerry could not have been in Cambodia in the place he was at, whereas, O'Neill was along the border in a western region. I don't recall exactly what he said...

Beatrice is right, I saw Oneill on Hannity and he was his usual self, unshakeable.

They also forgot that Kerry's campaign has basically admitted he wasn't there, by saying he went there later on Rolling Eyes

Even if O'Neill did say he was in Cambodia, O'Neill was there well after Kerry left and spent a full tour in country, Kerry didn't.

I think O'Neill handled Colmes well on it and they are just throwing up another out of context smokescreen instead of addressing charges directly or asking Kerry to release records to disprove the Swift vets.

O'niell never said he wasn't near Cambodia, but that was after Kerry was gone. He took over his boat after Kerry left Vietnam.

The Kerry campaign must be circulating the edited version of the tape.

I think the networks know they've got nothing, they're just going to milk it for the hit and run effect, hoping maybe turn a few people off to the Swift Vets. It's obvious O'Niel merely mispoke at some point--and he corrected his statement and told the truth. Something Kerry is going to drag down his entire campaign in order to avoid doing...

Guys,

This was a classic bait-and-switch. I am confident O'Neill won't let them get away with it.

I saw the CNN story where they showed the tape of O'Neill with Nixon, saying he was in Cambodia.

Then, the reporter said that they have a recording of a tape that a (O'Neill's??) publicist played for them where O'Neill recently says that he was [never?][not?] in Cambodia.

So, how did O'Neill clear this up? I can't tell by looking at the replies above...

By getting the rest of the tape that is not edited by the Democrats.

That CNN didn't even bother to check the tape out, shows which side they are on.

Ah, so in the publicist's tape, the "not in cambodia" part refers to a specific time or time frame, and is not a blanket "never" statment...?

So what if ONiel was in Cambodia, he served a full tour. By the end of his tour we were sending troups into that area. This does not envolve Kerrry at all. Even if Oniel had no explanation.

It would appear to be a tape distributed by the Kerry campaign, and MSM is just airing it on face value.

If O'Neill is correct and the very next sentence says he was on the border, not in Cambodia (as if it really makes any real difference), then the networks airing the tape will have some explaining to do.
