1. JOHN KERRY, Speech - Martin Luther King Day Celebration - Richmond, Virginia
January 20, 2003
"I remember well April, 1968 - I was serving in Vietnam—a place of violence -- when the news reports brought home to me and my crewmates the violence back home - and the tragic news that one of the bullets flying that terrible spring took the life of that unabashedly maladjusted citizen."

2. In April 1968 John Kerry was not in Vietnam he was sailing The Pacific Ocean between Australia and California on the US Gridley which saw no combat during his journey!

3. November 17th 1968 Kerry arrived in Vietnam - a place of violence!

I'm not trying to be cute but I really think Kerry fits this defination and it scares me if he wins!!!!

path·o·log·i·cal liar
Of, relating to, or telling of untruths that is habitual, maladaptive, and compulsive.

Suspect a pathological liar if:
the stories seem too dramatic or unrealistic
the lies seem to serve no purpose except to impress people or
the lies can easily be shown up

Might not be a "lie" as he was on the Gridley possibly in the Gulf of Tonkin at the time.

I think "in Vietnam - a place of violence" one would assume he was actually inside the country and in combat ?

Is there anyway to find out if the Gridley was in the Gulf of Tonkin in April 1968?

The date we need is April 4th 1968

Someone here will know and, don't get me wrong, his statement was a massive embellishment of the circumstance, but that's what the really good con artists do for a living.

The Navy considered being on a WESTPAC as combat duty.
Also,
In general, the Vietnam Service Medal was awarded to to those who served at least 1 day in support of combat, within what was considered the Vietnam AO.
The Gulf of Tonkin was considered within the Vietnam AO.

Near as i can figure, from what Kerry's Fitness reports from the Gridley show, only the following periods could probably be considered "in-country"

WestPac Combat OPS - Feb 19-Mar 22 1968
Gulf of Tonkin - March 23-27 1968
Gulf of Tonkin - April 1-May 5 1968

I believe (though I can't prove it yet) that it was within these dates that Sen. Kerry recently filed a DD215 request to amend his Vietnam Service Medal to add 2 campaign stars (4 total)
