Does anyone happen to know if Lt(jg) Kerry's service record
has the letters PI stamped anywhere on it.
If there are any admin/personnel types in this forum you may
recall it used to mean "Political Influence" and most were handled
with "kid gloves" per orders passed from the folks in DC

I worked with service records for over 30 years , some of that time as a personnel officer, and I never saw nor do I believe PI was ever used. LDO LCDR USN RET.

Some time ago I was Division Officer for X Division on a smaller ship. One of the enlisted men was a son of a US Senator (college drop out). There was no special designation on his personnel file, disbursing record or health record.

I enlisted Feb 1962 in USN, honerable discharge in 1969. I discovered in 1968 that my jacket was stamped in big red "PI". It was over a silly inquiry my US Senator made about me. It actually embarrassed me to discover it. The incident happened in 1963 when I was a Seaman. It stayed there until I went out as ET1. Jack.
