I had to go into the City yesterday due to a death in the family. I had the opportunity to see all the lunatics protesting and marching. Several major observations:

1. I noticed very, very few pro-Kerry signs. In fact, I saw more pro-Nader signs.
2. Tolerance was thrown overboard (no pun intended to the Swiftees). It was an anti-Bush rally exclusively. Everthing else was for show.
3. A lot of references to "Nazis." (i.e. spelling Bush with a swatsika instead of an "s." Referring to Republicans as Nazis and that they should get out of N York City.
4. I was in the City for over 12 hours and saw only a handful of American flags. Those were held by delegates and one Kerry supporter (but that flag had a peace sign on it).
5. Yes, the crowds were huge. However, on any typical NY City workday, if you ordered all the people on the sidewalk to walk on the streets; you would see the same sight.
6. Types of people: mostly young, in their early 20's, and dirty. The others were aging hippies.

All in all, like being a huge day room of a mental hospital.

I just have to ask a question, Doc....

How is this any different than any other day in NY? Wink

Sorry for your loss of a family member.

Thank you for your observations. I hope that the media shows the protestors.

The general response from the rest of America will be --- how come these stupid kids are not working like me.

This group will turn off the undecided of America because they will not identify with this dirty, silly group.

As I watch people's reactions to the disgusting display of Bush hate in NYC, I think it would be wise for the Swifties to note and take away a simple lesson.

You can make people angry, but that may not make them actually vote.

So far, the Swifties have done a magnificint job shaping the argument. I hope they don't veer into the anger trap.

The people protesting the GOP convention are wasting their time.

LETS GO PROTEST!!! WHOOOOO HOOOOO!

(Protesters = A bunch of people that band together to try and influence other people that hold the power over an issue. The end result is to try and cause change)

The value/influence of a street protest may have done some good in the 1960’s, but has seldom made any difference since. Most Americans probably think that protesters are kooks and extremists.

The protesters seem to all be there for different reasons. The one thing they have in common is their dislike for Bush. When the GOP protesters are interviewed as to why they are there, you tend to get the Democrat/Socialist party rhetoric with very little substance. These protesters come off as extremist idiots rather that well educated people with a thoughtful message.

Who and what are these protesters going to influence by protesting at a political convention?

-The President?- Bush has 2 more months left in his first term. Is he going to change any of his policies because some people are yelling on the side of the road? I doubt it.

-Voters?- Will the protesters get people to vote against the President any more than the millions of dollars the DNC has already spent bashing Bush over the past 9 months? I don’t think so. In fact, there may be a “backlash” against the protesters that benefits President Bush.

-The Media?- The media is already on the side of the Democrat/Socialist Party protesters. But, as the arrest count and moronic statements go up, the support for the protest goes down.

-The GOP base?- The GOP protesters will probably have the unintended effect of energizing the GOP base to vote. People see the morons/idiots on the street bashing their ideals and leadership. They see this “hate speech” being glorified by the media. This makes people mad and will only help fill the voting booth with GOP voters. Most Republicans understand that a “protest” is more effective at the voting booth then in the street.

In the end, the GOP protesters are wasting their time. More than likely the only thing they will accomplish this week is padding their arrest records and buying ice packs to help with the swelling from Police “night-stick” beatings.

Here is a sampling of the mentality of these anti-bush protestors, an excerpt from an article at frontpagemagazine.com

Quote:
Typically clueless was Bryan Martin, 25, a New Yorker carrying a “No Draft, No Way” placard. Following is a verbatim transcript of this columnists’ conversation with Mr. Martin:

Q: “What are you protesting?”
A: “I'm protesting a war we shouldn't be fighting.”
Q: “Are you protesting the Democrats with that sign?”
A: “No, the Republicans.”
Q: “Are you aware that the Democrats are the only ones proposing a reinstatement of the draft?”
A: “Wasn’t that tongue-in-cheek?”
Q: “No.”
A: “Oh. Well, they just gave me the sign at 14th Street (the demonstration's starting point). I don’t really know what it means.”

As a NYC resident since 1984 I can say that the protestors are nothing like the normal New Yorkers. Yes alot of NYC residents are Democrats, but remember we have elected Republican Mayors for the last 12 years.

The largest Bush donation zip code is right here in NYC. Conservatives often stay in the closet here, no sense in drawing fire unecessarily. The one thing that New Yorkers all cannot abide is a distruption of their getting to work and making money. The protestors are doing nothing but harm to their cause even among NYC liberals.

So be nice to NYC in your posts ... Very Happy

I wouldn't be suprised if they aren't working...as professional protesters!Seriously!

The groups are so influencial in this country that they have to PAY people to protest for them. I saw an ad in my local paper back before the protests down in Miami earlier this year. They were asking for people to go down there to protest for them...the group paying their traveling expenses. Rolling Eyes

Oops! I failed to preview my post. What I meant to say is that I would not be suprised if some of those protesters ARE being paid to be in NYC this week. There!

LOL, we *know* that. I love NEW YORK...I was very impressed with how the city pulled together after 9-11. Besides, remember - a LOT of these protestors have come from other parts of the country, too!

I heard Hannity's - Man on the Street the other day. The short of it, some of the protestors thought the guy running for the democrats name was "Kearney". So Hannity asked them what they thought about the Dem vice president, "Mr. Stu Ped". They all praised "Mr. Stu Ped", on his accomplishments. How out of touch are these people? Laughing

FF, if I can't riff a little on NYC, what can I riff on? Wink I mean, it is kind of an easy target.

This isn't anything new folks. In the 80s you had the Freeze movement, in the 70s and 60s you still had the anti-war folks. In the 50s there were the reds. The list goes on and on.
