Step 1: I quote Powell verbatim without revealing the source

Step 2: You immediately dismiss that quote as follows:

Quote:
Too bad this web site doesn't have sound effects Sparky, you could have added the strains of Kumbaya or something like that in here, plus a hammer and sickle flag waving in the background, I do love class warfare.

Step 3: I point out the source (Powell) and predict that you're going to start dismissing Powell

Step 4: You start dismissing Powell:

Quote:
You must be a lifetime civilian to be so impressed with Colin Powell. For the rest of us, Colin Powell puts on his pants the same way as we do

Yeah, I AM impressed with Powell. Besides McCain, he's about the only genuine hero leading your party. And rather than dismiss him, you should consider what he had to say about Chicken Hawks without thinking of a soundtrack to an Oliver Stone movie, ivory towers, hammer and sickles, and the Port Huron Statement.

The soft underbelly of Sparky, et al, is showing, as you still insist on being confused. Because, when I wrote this....

Quote:

.... I was dismissing you for being so impressed with Colin Powell. I did not dismiss Colin Powell.

You gave yourself away when you presumed too much with "your party" - you do not know my party affiliation, or if I have any party affiliation.

You also have revealed an unusual preoccupation with heroism as do those that desperately try to play the "my hero is more heroic than your hero - neener, neener, neener" game. If the level of heroism is the standard for party leadership, then John Kerry is hopelessly outclassed by large numbers of Vietnam veterans.

Again, you are dismissed.

Man, I just LOVE that Powell quote. I'm sorry you didn't. It really hits to the heart of the GOP leadership, virtually all of whom ducked out on a war they supported others die for. It's almost like they considered those who went to be suckers or something.

Personally, I think it says a lot about the merits of the war itself when even those supporting it kept their sons at home and let others die. It tells me that today's entire GOP leadership* never really believed in the war to begin with but thought "what the hell, it's all those lower class kids who have to fight it. The best and brightest can just join the Guard"

Or to quote Powell (again):

I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well placed ... managed to wangle slots in Reserve and National Guard units. Of the many tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and owe equal allegiance to their country.

*Except for McCain and Hagel.

The Powell quote is what it is. It's you I don't like.

Again, you are dismissed.

Hey Sparky please explain why you edited the Powell Quote??

Because removing his comments about pro athletes ducking out of vietnam like Bush, Cheney and the entire GOP leadership didn't make any difference regarding the meaning of the quote.
